Re: Over Active Thyroid

Hi there, just wondering if you can help.My friends cat is 15years old and has an over active thyroid too! She's also been eating wet foods and been having diarrhoea.
Could you give me any further advice to stop this diarrhoea? I said to my friend to try giving her cat those dry granuale meals for 3-4 days to see if it helps to clear up.
Thanks.

Re: Over Active Thyroid

Ideally she'd need to take her cat to the vet. The diarrhoea could be nothing to do with her over active thyroid or it could be a reaction to any medication she's taking. Usually when my cat has an attack of diarrhoea I get a Kaolin paste from the vets which helps to make her more regular. Changing her food might make things worse as it will take her gut a while to get used to the new food. Your friend could try feeding her a chicken and rice based food so it's bland and not too rich for her gut. But seeking vet advice would be my main advice. Sorry I couldn't help more. Hope she's feeling better soon.

Re: Over Active Thyroid

Hi Jaxx, thanks for your reply, my friend has been to the vet several times, but with no success. I think I will advise her about the thryoid operation. Thanks again. Kitgem

Re: Over Active Thyroid

Just thought I'd update a bit. Kitty seems to be putting some weight back on now she's on the Felimazole which is great. This of course has been greatly helped by the fact that I've given in on a personal rule of not giving her wet food and allowing her some meaty pouches. Kitty of course is loving this and views it as a fantastic victory over me. She was supposed to go for a check up on Friday but unfortunately I wasn't fast enough and she escaped out of the cat flap before I could catch her. She had another appointment tomorrow, cue locking the cat flap.
