Unhappy Poorly Kitten

My friend has 3 four week old siamese kittens. Last night while i was there she noticed that one of them had orange gunky stuff around his back end. We cleaned him up and about an hour later saw him pooping out the same stuff. (Sorry to be graphic) Its like orange snot, doesnt look like blood in it but is horrible colour.
ITs not runny and he seems to be behaving as normal - wailing for attention and running around the pen

Any advice please - I told her you guys would be a good help

Re: Poorly Kitten

Hi there would probably be a good idea to get them checked out by the vet, have they recently been wormed?sounds like it may be some kind of infection, better to be safe than sorry,as little kittens can quickly fade. Are they on any kind of solids yet?

Re: Poorly Kitten

If they are not properly weaned, normal unweaned kitten poo is yellowy/orangey brown. You don't normally see it because Mum cleans it up. A trip to the vets to be sure is a good idea, but if its not runny, then, it could just be normal poo on the change with the introduction of something other than Mums milk.

What kitten milk is it?

Re: Poorly Kitten

I don't like cimicat, milk because it makes the kittens loose I much prefer to use Carnation milk, egg yoke and honey for nursing mums and also to top up kittens that need that bit extra
I worm my kittens at 6 weeks and again at 9 weeks.

Re: Poorly Kitten

Thank You for your help. Unfortunately last night a different kitten in the litter wasn't looking very well. She was taken to the vet and was too ill to survive. The vet said he thought she was just too weak as she was the runt. He said maybe a virus
The boy with the funny coloured poo was looked at and seems to be doing ok. The vet had said this could be normal if its his first poops.

We both disinfected the pen area and all the bedding last night and the vet said to bring him if he deteriorates. My friend has stayed off work to keep an eye on him all day.

Thanks for your advice everyone
