Hi sarapadgett20, from what I have read there is a link between Hypertension (high blood pressure) and Hyperthyroidism. Seargy was a nightmare to give tablets to initially but we then heard about a pill giver which basically costs about £2 and is the best thing your money will buy not only for less stress for your cat but also to save your hands from being scracthed to bits! Its basically a specialised syringe with a little claw on the end for the tablet. You put the tablet on the end and put it right into the corner of your cats mouth. Push the syringe and the cat gets a small dose of water and the tablet goes down...priceless! She is on 1x5mg of felimazole in the morning and 1x2.5mg felimazole at night and we now have very few problems. When seargy wasn't eating at first we swapped the water for cat milk to get some vitamins etc into her and gave her a couple of syringefuls (but gave it her slowly). I hope this helps and good luck and remember NEVER give up no matter how bleak things look!

Re: My cat's gone blind :-(
Hi SK, its sarapadgett20 I replied to on this thread I thinks she trying various threads for a reply. Whilst I'm posting this I was just wondering if any/all of you who give your cats tablets have heard of this pill giver? The reason I ask is that when we first started tablet giving we weren't asked by the receptionist vet if we'd like a tablet giver and to be quite honest when we went for a new tablet giver another receptionist never even knew they existed until we pointed to them on a shelf behind her! For those who haven't seen one before I have attached a picture. Oh just remembered something else from past experience regarding hyperthyroidism. When you first starting giving your cat the tablets (felimazole) you may notide that he/she starts to scratch and wash the front of their chest and legs. This apparently is a side effect of felimazole and not a case of fleas! As you can see from Seargy's picture below she has little bolding spots in the middle of her legs from overlicking although this was taken quite a few months. She has got used to it now. Does anyone know where my tablet giver pictures gone!?! If it doesn't appear I'll try attaching again later. Added picture of syringe to "Images"... below Posts... above right

Re: My cat's gone blind :-(
I have had one of these but though they are handy to have in-the girl that we tried with it was in no way any happier about this-so though at my own risk-and it is with Rosie
I found it much easier to not let her see me approach any form of tablet tub/packet and then scruff her neck, gently tilt her head and push into the middle of her teeth-as far near the back of her mouth as i can and rub her throat-whilst praising and thanking her for not chomping my hand off Smooth-i know Fortunately this technique hasn't been needed often-for which i am both grateful and relieved-be slightly easier trying to retrieve raw steak from a hungry rottweiler ![]() ![]() ![]() Have to say Phil and Sarah though it's sad that this issue happened to your cats-it's been a learning curb for me and interesting too,so thanks for posting this topic and the details![]() |

As everyone on here was so lovely and took the time to respond to my original post i thought i'd let you know how ronnie is doing now. i'm very pleased to report that after only 1 week on the blood pressure medication ronnie's blood pressure was back to normal and he has now regained some of his sight! :-D exactly how much we can't tell but he is no longer bumping into things and is able to follow objects and move/jump around the house as he was before. he's also eating well and is back to his normal mischievious self! :-D thanks again for all your help. sarah (a very chuffed ronnie owner (servant!) :-D |
