Question Nasal bleeding in cat

One of my cats has developed a sneeze. It has lasted for about three weeks.
I have had her to the vet. She has been on baytril shots daily for two weeks with no help. The vet took a culture today. Hopefully we will find the cause in about a week. She has had a nasal discharge and runny left eye. The discharge has become bloody. She is in her second of year of treatment for small cell lymphoma. She doctors at a nearby University Vet Clinic as well as our small town vet clinic. The sneeze started after our last visit to the vet clinic. I understand there is the possibility of a tumor, though our vet did extensive x-rays two weeks ago. Nothing showed up on them. Has anyone had a similar experience? The cat is 15, eats and poops well, has no symptoms of the digestive cancer. She cannot tolerate an oral antibiotic.

Re: Nasal bleeding in cat

Thanks for your concern, Trish1200! The cat is very active for her age and everything that she has been through. I am amazed that she has not lost her appetite, as that is strongly affected by her sense of smell. I will keep you posted.

Thumbs up Re: Nasal bleeding in cat

Thanks for your response. I understand she could have an infection that was not affected by the previous antibiotic. She has spells of vigorous sneezing and coughing and spells when she is quiet. However, she has a constant nasal drainage which has differing amounts of blood. Her activity and behavior are normal. I find that encouraging. Right now I keep Kleenex handy when I am home.

Re: Nasal bleeding in cat

It does sound very worrying, but it would fit with a infection, especially as it started just after a trip to the vets. It could have been a small virus she picked up there. Is she on chemo? A friends cat had to have a course of chemo and it does make them immuno supressed and open to viruses/infections that otherwise they could have just fought off. Even being a little bit run down would open her up to the same.

Unless there is a lot of blood, from what I have read some blood staining is common where the nasal passages have been inflammed for a while, people get the same after a heavy cold. I hope whatever antiBs she is on now does the trick. There is an antiB injection now that last two weeks, convenia or something like that.

I hope she continues to enjoy herself and this problem resolves itself very quickly.

Re: Nasal bleeding in cat

To Saikou-
The cat has been on chemo since June of 06. Her symptoms fit your description very well. Right now we are waiting for a culture to see if there is a germ that can be isolated and treated. If the culture is clear, I guess the next step will be a trip back to the vet school for a scan of some type. Those visits require a two hour car ride, which is very stressful for her. I am hoping the culture will turn up something. Thanks for your concern.
