Miss Kitty is on a distinguished road
Smile Applaws food

Hi Everyone

I am getting my first kitten in a few days and want to wean her off Whiskas and feed her Applaws wet and dry food.

I know they have got kitten food. But i would like to give her a variety of flavours.

So i was just wondering if it would be ok if i gave her the Applaws cat food, (as they have fish variety's)??? Or should i just stick with the Applaws kitten wet food??

Just to clarify i will be feeding her Applaws kitten biscuits.

Any help or advice will be greatly appreciated.

Thankyou

Re: Applaws food

Just a though, but Applaws wet adult food isn't complete so shouldn't be feed as the main bulk of a diet.

Re: Applaws food

I would stick to the wet food only. Dry will do nothing for her long term health. All my kittens have a range of wet foods, the higher quality ones, do not differentiate between kitten and adult. Although none of them like Applaws kitten, they do enjoy the adult.

If you want alternative kitten wet foods though, try Zooplus, wets like Almo Nature and Porta 21 are high quality, all different, although all based around chicken, with kitten versions.

Re: Applaws food

Do you mind if i ask why you want to wean it off whiskers?

We used whiskers kitten for our boy (and all other kittens we have fostered) and he has always had a thick glossy coat, good stools, healthy gums etc.

We provide kitten biscuits in the form of Iams kitten which he has access to all day with fresh drinking water.

Now he is a year old we have weaned him on to Purely (Iams adult wet food didnt agree with him) and currently he is still eating the Iams kitten biscuit simply because he hasnt eating it all yet and im not wasting a kilo of dried food, lol. Once the biscuits have been used im still debating Iams adult biscuits or more likely a dried food made for hairball prone cats!

So i guess my question is why fix it if it aint broken? (i.e changing him from whiskers to another kitten food)

Re: Applaws food

If the OP wants to feed their kitten a better quality food then why not? Whiskas % of meat is very low - something like 4% or could be higher, recommended % for a quality wet is 60% + . Applaws, along with Natures Menu, Almo Nature, Porta 21, Hi Life fall into that category.

For IAMs I would google them, if you haven't heard of the terrible reputation for cruelty they have.

Re: Applaws food

The strange thing is a lot of our cats actually prefer Whiskas? Some of the kittens have even vomitted when we've tried them on a high meat content food so we tend to stick with Whiskas now and use Royal Canin dry food which the kittens seem to love.

Spid is correct Applaws wet is not a complete food and if you were to feed a lot of it then the nutritional balance is incorrect. She will like it and may end up preferring it, so where will you be then. I feel it is great as a treat or to get a sick cat to eat but as a daily diet I am unconvinced. I would stick to complete foods.

I tend to agree too. Diarrhoea and stomach upsets by changing foods is not something you want to get into.

I think Saikou was just giving you the information and reason why the Op may be making the change from Whiskas. It's difficult to read tones of people/threads on the puter. Sometimes.
