Early Neutering Opinions

Hi All

Over the last few months I have spoke to a number of breeders - and of course everyone has their own ideas of what is right or wrong.

So................

I would like to know everyone's thoughts on early neutering - for or against?
And why?

The reason is a few breeders have told me that it is tied into their Kitten Adoption Contract that the kittens are to be neutered before they go to their new homes.
And I can see why they say that but is it ethically correct??
Im not sure how I feel about this one so I will stay on the fence for now.

Also - Can they enforce you to early neuter your kittens if you disagree with it?

Thanks guys - another one to ponder! LOL

Re: Early Neutering Opinions

I heard in the rest of the world it is perfectly normal to have cats done very young. Apparently there is no harm at all. But I'm no expert.

Re: Early Neutering Opinions

Some vets won't do the deed til the chap/gal is at least 5/6 mths but some do it early-as for ethically correct well yes i think so as it's the only sure fire way to ensure your kitt isn't gonna be bred off or used for stud work which can cause a whole loada problems. We don't neuter/spay our kitts before they go and thus far i guess we've been extremely lucky in that all our adoptive families have honored our requests For us this may well change in the future, i dunno about enforcing it as it were but being there kitten to start with they can refuse you the kitten full stop-i suppose it depends on the breedersI'm sure if you already had kitten then they may withhold any papers etc

Re: Early Neutering Opinions

My male cat was done in the teens of weeks as he had to have something else done at the same time. My mums white cat was also done at a very young age as he had to have extra claws removed - they grew through his pads as well as in the normal place.
