I have a kitten, advice please.

I have no idea where to start.

What is the best food to feed them? I have a little tabby with no name as yet At what age do they go outside and how do you introduce them to this? do they come back home?Is it milk or water?

I shall be taking him to the vets on Monday, he is 8 weeks old so I guess he is due his vacinations. At what are they have flea treatment? he has been wormed yesterday by the breeder.

I seem clueless don't I, lol! I have always wanted a kitten, my mum has a cat and I have always wanted one of my own, it has taken 30 years to finally get one, hehe. Hubby bought me one as a gift today after a sad shift on the ward and it is my wedding anniversary on Tuesday

Any advice appreciated, and name suggestions of course

Re: I have a kitten, advice please.

congrats on your kitten. lets hope shell brighten up your day when its not goin so well.

as for worming and fleaing i cant give you advice as i didnt get sheldon till he was 5 months old.
but with regards to goin outside its fine for him to go out as soon as hes vaccinated and neutered. i started off with windows open for him to hear the outside. then i got a harness and lead and walked him round or as it happened carried him round. then i let him in the garden without the lead and i watched him but now he goes out by himself but for few hours on an evening then comes home. i always make sure i give him a treat when he comes in jst to encourage him.

youll find for food hilife and natures menu will prob be recomended as they are high meat content but at 1st id continue with the breeders choice and then slowly introduce somethin new. however with him bein a boy maybe lol be careful with dry food as it can cause problems. i give sheldon it durin night so he shudnt wake me up but he still does lol.

im sure someone with alot more info will come along. but you have a lot of fun days in store and be prepaired for lots of laughs and a naughty little rascal he he

Re: I have a kitten, advice please.

Congrats on your gorgeous new addition!

Okay, jabs at 9 and 12 weeks, neuter around 5-6 months, allow in the garden once neutered, water only (cats are mainly intolerant to milk), worming and defleaing every 3 months (your vet will advise). They come back from being outside cos they love you and they are hungry. Personally I feed the slightly more expensive foods that are high meat content Hi-life, Nature's Menu, Applaws, Nature, Tesco's Finest and fordry I use James Wellbeloved. I also feed raw. Keep him on whatever the breeder was using to begin with and then very gradually over a couple of weeks change him on to what you want. Feed him little and often. Same goes for litter. If he's outside it's probably worth insuring as even asimple broken leg can cost £100's. I use More than for one cat and Direct Line for the other but others use different ones. Decide whee you want him tosleep and stick to hit - he may cry for the first couple of nights but will eventually settle. If you have himin the bedroom you may find he wants to play during the night (cats are naturaly nocturnal).

Hope that helps.

Re: I have a kitten, advice please.

Hi hope your enjoying your new addition!

My two babies are just 6 weeks old at the moment and as its such a nice day Ive sat outside with them on my knee and they werent frightened at all! I wouldnt put them down tho as they havent had jabs yet. Might be an idea just to get your kitty used to the sounds outside as one cat I had years ago was terrified of its first venture outside!
