Re: cat loosing weight in season
Yes you can - i think it is called ovarid ? - but . . . some times it stops seasons for a month, or a year, or forever! Why do you want to stop her seasons? Is it because she isn't old enough to breed or becasue she is noisy. Are you intending on breeding? If you aren't, the easiest way to stop seasons is to have her spayed.

Re: cat loosing weight in season
There is a few contraceptives available for cats, and like stated, Ovarid is one. However, many are associated with terrible side effects. They must be used with caution, and after a lenghty discussion with your vet to see if they really are the best option. They are nothing like the the human varieties, and shouldnt be routinely used.
NOAH Compendium of Animal Medicines: Ovarid - Introduction This is the info on Ovarid (it carries the least risk for side effects), i cant remember the others right now. |

Re: cat loosing weight in season
Many vets won't prescribe Ovarid at all these days as it does carry a risk of side effects However, breeders use it at a very much lower dose than is recommended by the manufacturers - personally i have used it for over 20 years for my queens and have not seen any problems.
I do agree though that if you don't intend to breed from a cat she should certainly be spayed. |
