The best time to spay?

Hello everyone!

I was wondering when the best time to spay my kitten was? She is coming up to 6 months old. The breeder I got her from advised me to spay her at 7 months but would it be ok to do it before or after 7 months? Also, does anyone know roughly what age females come into season (if there is a specific time)?

Many thanks
Helen

Re: The best time to spay?

They can be as early as 5 months with the calling.

I think spaying can be done very young if I am not mistaken. I think the best time is asap if you don't want a calling girl.

Re: The best time to spay?

Depending on what breed your girl is she could start calling anytime from now so its a good idea to get her booked in for speying as soon as you can.

Ok thanks for the advice, i'll book her in asap. This may seem a silly question but what do you mean by 'the calling'?

Re: The best time to spay?

Calling practically means in season, and ready to mate. I got told by my vets that females can start calling as early as 4 months but not always that way and that most vets prefer to wait untill the kitten is 6 months but can be done earlier. x
