blood in urine/incontinence

Hi, I'm not sure what is up with my cat but currently he has blood in his urine (not visible but detected when a vet does a dipstick analysis).

He is incontinent (not all the time) but wees in his sleep or when he is deeply relaxing.

I took him to the vets last month and they did a dipstick analysis and found blood and protein in his urine and gave him antibiotics. (I know bacteria is not usually the cause of this kind of thing though). At the end of that we went back but I couldn't get a urine sample so the vet injected into his bladder to get one. The results were a lot of blood in his urine but it was not possible to know if that was there anyway or there because of the method used to get the sample. So the vet gave him some antibiotics anyway - a longer course .

Anyway (sorry this is such a long post) I cancelled the next appointment (due after the antibios were finished) cos I didn't manage to get a urine sample but took one in without the cat (Oscar) today. The results were - a lot of blood in the urine. (Tested by the nurse). I'm taking him in on Friday (with or without a sample depending on what I manage). I hope he is ok and they can do something for him.

He seems fine in himself, playful and cuddly. He likes going out through the cat flap and we don't have any neighbourhood cats trying to get in. I tried a couple of months of a feliway diffuser but that makes no difference. He never deliberately pees outside his litter tray - it's left in eg his basket or my bed!! when he sleeps. He may take a little longer to pee than he should but I'm not completely sure actually. He doesn't cry when he does.

He eats wet food only (something for sensitive cats) and some cooked fresh food. I managed to wean him off dry food after Christmas I think. (He first came to live with me in October last year). He's 9.5 year old Burmese and not overweight. Any ideas? I'm wondering what the vet will do next?

Re: blood in urine/incontinence

did the vet look at the wee under a microscope, I could be wrong but u may have a cat with crystals (or pos bladder stones) in his urine.
This would cause blood, in severe cases the bladder can become blocked and is do do with the ph of the urine.
Another thing is pos dome kind of growth witin the urinary system (NOT nec a bad cancer) could be just a benign polyp or something.
I am sure ur vet will cover all the possabilities, sounds like he is just illiminating the obvious causes first b4 investigating further.
Just make sure ur cat is drinking plenty as this keeps his water works healthy

Thanks. Hopefully the vet will check for these things on Friday.
