Cat Leaukeamia cancer version info really needed please

I am utterly beside myself as today I have found out our wonderful 3 year old male cat has leukaemia and it is the cancer version.
The problem is I am English and we now live in Switzerland and my Vet has limited speaking in English.
Therefore I am searching the internet but can only come up with the viral leukaemia version not the cancer version
Dora is a moggy but looks like a Persian cat - he weighs in at 6.2 kg so over weight. He has always been a howling cat -ever since day one - he has wanted constant attention . When he is patted he is fine. I used to take him to the vet in the Uk and they did tests and just said it is a behaviour thing.
Recently he has been weeing all over the house - large volumes - I can be patting him one minute and then he just wee's
Anyway she did some tests for routine bloods and diabetes but today says he has the cancer form of Leaukeamia not the viral
He looks well - eats well and has not lost weight
What do I need to know and do and can it be treated
She is running more tests - to locate the source - I thought leukaemia was just ion bone marrow -am I incorrect?
I am nurse so understand about Leukaemia but am beside myself about this
If you can offer me any help i would so much appreciate it
Thanks

Hello

Sorry to hear about Dora, can't be easy trying to get information for this with such a language barrier. Has there only been bloods taken?

Have you any Swiss friends who could come along to the next consult as it sounds as though someone to help interpret would be a big help. Hopefully when the next test results are through will give a better indication of prognosis.

Good Luck.

Dora, I may be able to help you in a way. My vet here in England is native from Switzerland. Maybe if you were to get in touch with her, she could explain or fax to your vet what you are trying to explain. She is fluent in English and her name is Rachel. The telephone number for the vets (Mearleys) is 01254 231703 and she works Mondays to Fridays. She is a lovely vet and I bet she would be prepared to do that for you. C.x.

Ooooh, that's wonderful. And as we are talking of Leukaemia it would be a good idea to have any results of blood tests available to email or fax to the vet here in UK.
Good luck to you and Dora.xx

Re: Cat Leaukeamia cancer version info really needed please

Is this cancer lymphosarcoma/lymphoma Lymphoma in Cats ? because if it is then in most forms it is treatable especially in young cats. It is apparently very agressive, but also responds amazingly quickly to chemo, which cats tolerate far better than humans. My friends cat had it, was treated and now is in full remission with a normal life expectancy.
