I am really sorry to hear that, I suppose it could have been a different less treatable kind, I think it depends where the main mass is. The vet may also have made a quality of life judgement because of his/her age - but then I don't think that's their call to make at all.

This type of cancer is sadly quite prevalent in young siamese. It occurs before the age of 3 yrs. Not all vets are up to date with the latest treatment though. When Raymond was diagnosed Karen's vet told her all they could offer was paliative care, and gave him 8 weeks. It was only because she knew of a couple more cats that had been given treatment that she pushed for a referal. Later she asked him why he hadn't given her the option of treatment and he told her that most of his clients would not want to pay out for it, so didn't offer it to them

The vet shouldn't have made the judgement of whether or not the client wants to pay....that's why many of us have insurance and/or Mastercard.

Yes thats great for you and those who are in the same boat-however a lot of people are pet owners and cannot afford such requests so the vet knows when not to put this decision on someones shoulders knowing they will probably live with either heavy duty guilt or heavy duty debt-when their are no guarantees of the cats recovery I would like to believe that the majority of vets are decent people who try to do their best for all concerned, but sadly not all

Re: Cat Leaukeamia cancer version info really needed please

I agree veterinary costs can be a very heavy burden, and I do not know what I would do or how I would feel if I had to make that kind of choice. But at the end of the day my cats are my responsibility, and I would want to make an informed choice, whatever the reasons, I wouldn't want someone making that decision for me. In Karen's case her vet misjudged her and nearly made the wrong decision for her and Raymond. It makes you wonder how many times that had happened.
