Home Made Recipes for Sensitive Stomachs

Do any of you have ideas for home-made food for cats? I would like to cook it in batches and freeze it if possible once I have found something that works.

We have a little girl called Cherry and her bottom is in a terrible state. We (us and the vets) have eliminated most causes and are left to the conclusion that she has a sensitive stomach. She is on Hill's Science Plan for Senstive Stomachs but it is only marginally better - instead of pure liquid it is now the consistency of pureed sludge. There's just one more food we can try that is packeted, but I'm sure we can come up with a food that is well balanced, nutritious and hypo-allergenic.

She's a year old. I was thinking along the lines of pureed chicken, chopped carrots, rice etc.

Could you post your homemade recipes here? I would love to try them.

Re: Home Made Recipes for Sensitive Stomachs

This is what we use for the dogs for dodgy tums and mix it with a little probiotic low fat drink from Tesco I had a dog that the vets couldnt sort it took about a month but it worked I know it is not a treat but your thread set me thinking

nutritious combination which, because of its soothing properties and high digestibility, has been traditionally used for weaning young animals and for convalescents during the recovery period following illness. The highly digestible ingredients and low fat content make it an ideal food to aid poor digestion. It is soothing to the digestive system and helps to slow the passage of food through the system, so is of great benefit for acute intestinal absorptive disorders and can be given both during and in the recovery period following acute diarrhoea. It may be given when required for short term use or indefinitely if necessary for conditions such as exocrine pancreatic insufficiency. It may be given mixed with skimmed milk, live natural yoghurt or water or can be simply sprinkled onto the food if preferred. For cats with delicate digestive systems, it has been found that by adding a little Tree Barks Powder to each meal the toleration of almost any food is increased.

Re: Home Made Recipes for Sensitive Stomachs

I have heard that a completely raw diet has cured some cat with servere and chronic diarrhoea. Whether that works for all cats or not I don't know, but some of the stories I read were dramatic.

I am sure there used to be a Yahoo group for IBS but I can not find it now. There is a Holisticat forum, you have to join to see the posts, but that looks to have recipe sections for a wide variety of problems Holisticat Community :: Index

They have a few recipes on their main site. This one is supposed to reproduce the Hills Hypoallergenic diet

The Original Holisticat (TM) Homemade Rx Diets

Have you had her allergy tested to see what foods she is allergic to?

Ooh! Thanks for that.
No - we haven't started testing her for allergies yet. The vet has suggested taking her back to a completely hypo-allergenic start - white fish mashed with white rice - and then add foods into her diet a bit at a time once her poo has become solid.

Trouble is when I tried to give her white fish before her bum seemed to get worse. I am going to try again one more time, now that she has been treated for collitis.

When macy was a kitten she was poorly, she had chlamydia!!!
the anti biotics wiped all good gut bacteria out. we put her on steamed fish and boiled rice, when we added live youghurt a week or so later she got the squits as she was lactose intollerant,
We(me & vet) then put her on royal cannin sensible diet. this helped and all was back to normal soon after, good luck
