Unhappy Acne problem

Hi, has anyone had a problem with acne?
My boy has had it quite badly, and I have been unable to show him which is a bit of a bummer... He was entered in 2 shows and I was hoping it would have cleared up by now but it's slow to heal. He's been on antibioctics which have worked to clear up the soreness and although it doesn't look too bad now, where he scratched his chin before, there's bald patches. (I bathed it in Hibbi scrub but he had a reaction which seemingly made it worse.)
Hopfully the fur will grow back soon, has anyone else had this problem?

Re: Acne problem

2 of my girls have had it on and off. Lulu has it at the moment but she is pregnant, so probably down to hormones.

Have you tried swapping his bowls to stainless steel?

Perhaps a course of AB's will help clear it up. Has the vet said its definatly acne?

Re: Acne problem

The cat I gave to my sister has this, it did clear well with anti b's but as he's white he still has marks and when she put sun lotion on him it got a bit worse.
I was hoping some people on here would have some suggestions or experience.

Re: Acne problem

Like Jen26 said, switching bowls might help. What kind are you using? Plastic bowls can cause it. Stainless steel are great and ceramic aren't bad either (although you have to be careful about chips).

Re: Acne problem

One of mine gets it. He seems to have quite sensitive everything including skin but half his chin is white. I noticed he had a massive scab and another smaller sore along his gumline. He had it quite bad when I realised what it was. I initially thought it was a scab from fighting. Anyway, I switched bowls to stainless steel. The plastic ones get germs in them easily in any smal scratches, and he's a very messy eater. They were also quite high sided bowls so would easily touch his chin. Also made sure bowls were washed in anti bacterial washing up liquid.

I took him to the vet and the vet gave him antibiotic injection and anti inflammatory. Being the sensitive soul he is he reacted to these jabs and pee'd out his butt for a few days until I got some other stuff to settle him down.

It is pretty much the same way some people are prone to acne, and you just need to keep an eye on it and if needbe clean the chin with hibbi scrub. He's losing a bit of hair under his chin at the moment and I think I saw a small spot forming so I am going to make sure I order some today. I believe some people have even sworn by facial cleansing wipes from the likes of Olay.
