Vaccinations for Kittens...

Im new to the forum so just thought id say hi first.

I have two kittens/cats, now approx 10 months old that I rehomed at 9 weeks old from the RSPCA. Due to illness from day one they didnt have their injections young and have only had the first so far.

I want to know if anyone here knows if an RSPCA member can administer vaccinations?

As part of the deal the injections and operations were included for £45 per kitten. I had vouchers for the ops which were done at the vets but the injections I was told were to be done at the ladys home who fosters the kittens.

My vet said they shouldnt be doing the jabs as they are not a qualified vet, but the lady said it was fine. I took them to the vets instead of the ladys home just incase, but I wondered if its illegal for them to do them?

Can someone please help me?

Thanks

Does anyone know if they are allowed by law to do this?

Clearly not.

I would have thought it was illegal as the injections are a prescription drug but I don't know.

Hi,

It is illegal in the UK to give animals vaccinations unless you are a vet.

Also if they have had the first ones done the 2nd lot have to be done 3 weeks later, so you may have to get them al done again, check with your vet

Re: Vaccinations for Kittens...

Hi, thanks for the answers. I am taking them tomorrow for the second jabs so the first dont need re-doing.

I will speak to the vet about the injections and see if the RSPCA are alllowed or not, she wasnt 100% sure but it sounds wrong to me if they are just a cat fosterer. It is just simply a lady who works for the Cats Protection league/RSPCA with cats and kittens in her conservatory waiting for people to re-home. I think its odd.
