Kitten Advice Needed

We currently have two kittens one aged six months and one who is new with us is 5 weeks old.

Last week the youngest, Gizmo had diarrhoea and as she is so young she went straight to the vets.. everything else was fine the vet said that she was healthy and had bright eyes etc so was probably just an issue with new environment and new food, they gave her liquid worming medication as she's still to young to have tablets and we stopped giving her kitten milk and although she still has a bad tummy its starting to look more solid now.

This week however the six month old Tiga - Phillie has started with the diarrhoea everything is otherwise fine with her .. the new kitten has only been with us for a week could this be the reason why both have had the same problem ? stress etc.. as everything else seems the same. We have had Tiga since she was 7 weeks and this is the first time we have had any problems.

Any help would be very grateful

Also the youngest, Gizmo has been given a new diet from the vet for the time being to see if that helps.

Stacey xx

Hi,5 weeks is terribly young, maybe he had issues with worms,i doubt the breeder bothered, judging by how young they passed them on,hopefully it will settle soon, what are you feeding

I totally agree 5 weeks is far too young to leave its mum and siblings but like claire says prob just the new baby around it may have picked up something from them make sure you worm the older cat, im sure things will settle soon.

Re: Kitten Advice Needed

the elder of the two was wormed the day we got her.. and the youngest has had liquid wormer due to her being so small..

They are both on Whiskas kitten food and now everything has settled down once more.

We think it was the kitten milk that was unsettling them both for some reason.. we stopped giving them any and its helped a lot.

Re: Kitten Advice Needed

5 weeks is VERY young, how come you have her so early? Maybe it was just because of the change and leaving her litter mates its upset her system, hope she is better soon tho

Re: Kitten Advice Needed

The woman we got her from told us she was much older than she is... if we had of known her real age we wouldn't have taken her. luckily gizmo is in a loving home.. as the woman was clearly desperate to just sell them and could have sold them to anyone who wouldn't have treated them right

Re: Kitten Advice Needed

I am glad that both your kittens are feeling much better!

It's good that Gizmo has gone to a caring home.

Re: Kitten Advice Needed

Im glad theyve settled down, one of my kittens is weaning and luvs Whiskers pouches and similar, although mum luvs them too. Shes happily chomping her way through dried kitten food too - I dont need to wet it for her. They are five weeks, the other kitten isnt really trying to eat at the moment but I keep trying. They seem to like evaporated milk with baby rice and it hasnt upset their tummies - mum luvs it too but she hates cat milk!
