Scabby skin on old cat

My cat tigg who mainly live outdoors is about 15 odd years old he has got v.thick fur and when i brush him we can see his skin is very dry and bits of flaky skin comes out in the brush. He also has scabby lumps and scratches. He is a very tame lovely cat but when you attempt to pick him up or poke him he will not sit still and will start scratching the person. He was a rescue cat and is now very well looked after but because he lives outside he prone to bushes and other cats maybe. Do you think that the vet would be able to sedate him and then give him a intensive antiseptic batheing kind of thing? Any other advice would be appreciated. He lives outside out of his own will and we do worm him and feed him properly etc... Thanks

Re: Scabby skin on old cat

I know this may sound a little obvious but do you flea him with a proper flea treatment?

Re: Scabby skin on old cat

Feline Miliary Dermatitis ~ Pawprints and Purrs, Inc.

Sorry if I sounded patronising but I only asked that as my outside cat was like this and I didn't realise BobMartin flea products were rubbish at the time. I used Frontline and she is fine now.

I think I would take him to the vet. I am sure they could help out with something.

Hope he is better soon.

Re: Scabby skin on old cat

He's probably developed a flea allergy with old age.

Take him to the vets, but if it is flea allergy you just have to flea him monthly. My 1 year old has this and starts getting scabby literally to the day that she is due for fleaing.
