Re: Ring Worm
Thanks for your input SK and Maz, I think anyone going into semi or longhaired cats should be aware of this subject!
Also on the subject of clipping. Dave, I know you think of it as cruel but I have 16 Persians. Every year I clip back some cats that I do not intend to show. This is purely for the ease of grooming and the cats are so much more comfortable than if they get matted up. They are all indoor cats so they do not get cold and I can assure you that the coat grows back to normal in no time at all. ![]() ![]() ![]() |

Re: Ring Worm
My mums cat which is a tabby shorthaired moggie caught ringworm, her Korat caught it off the tabby and my dog also caught it (on her muzzle) from sniffing around the cat probably. The cats were both shaved even though they were shorthaired (they looked so sorry for themselves when they came home from the vets), we had to bath the dog every day or so, the cats an my mums other dogs had to be bathed, they had tablets too. Luckily enough no human caught it off them, my dad was the one to spot it on the cat! he was a farmer and had seen ringworm on many farm animals and farmhands so it was something he had seen quite a lot of. Not sure how the vet picked up on it - if they used the light or cultured it (my dog was still living with my mum at that point) all I can remember is after touching either the cats or dogs I'd have to wash my hands with some soapy type stuff that made my hands sore (didn't visit until it was confirmed it had gone after that), and yes it seemed to take a long time to go.

Re: Ring Worm
Virkon is the best disinfectant to wear for humans and soft furnishings as that was very commonly used when we had the foot and mouth scare going on. They used to wash their wellies in it! Also Trigene is what the vets use to wipe the tables down inbetween different clients

Re: Ring Worm
I don't know what the disinfectant wash stuff was but it smelt like the vets does, lol, it didn't half sting my hands and make them sore though, I only washed them once with it as well, just as wel lI don't work at the vets otherwise I'd have no hands left! After all the bathing that was done the dogs couldn't care less about getting a bath but the cats try not to walk past the bathroom door if it's left open.

Re: Ring Worm
They're my mums cats and no definately not water babies. My cats can take it or leave it, I've had to bath 1 of my cats as he'd had jeyes fluid thrown at him or something that smelt just like it, so it was in the house and in the bath for him, he just stood there glaring at me. 2 of my cats were bathed by my youngest daughter when she was about 8 or 9 (she's now 14 so a few years ago), middle of summer and theres me with my heating on to get the bloody things dry as they'd not go near the hair dryer. They mustn't have grumbled too much because they'd been shampoo'd and conditioned, one of the cats still sits on the edge of the bath if you're in it.
