Incase anyone else is reading this in a similiar situation, here is a link to cheap SporalD Disinfectant Shampoo.

When I find it, I'll also post a link for the Virkon Disinfectant (for floors & surfaces)

every breeder's nightmare!!! and you said just looking like dandruff too. When I was showing last it used to be skin lesions they looked for - and any sort of bald spot would count even if it obviously was not ringworm. Had a show rejection on this grounds once but the test was negative, thank God!

You realise this thread has now started me itching all over and is rapidly sending me into a state of paranoia as we are shortly entering our first show in eight years?

And I will probably get the antibiotics from the vets as obviously i cannot buy them legally.

And I WONT be getting them shaved.
They are not antibiotic tablets Dave, Grisofulvin is the only known tablet to eradicate it at the moment but I believe new medications are being developed in the States.

Oh and p.s. you shouldnt have to get your cats shaved as they are not longhairs as such, not compared to mine anyway. Normal shampooing should get shut of it but I had to do it every two days, grrrrrrr

Hey Liz, my judge at the time was Mrs Smith (not sure on her first name, but a right stickler) and she is like an eagle, can spot anything. Even the head vet didnt spot it at vetting in. It came down to the judge in the middle of the morning which was even worse. In fact all the vets had been gooing over her being such a gorgeous kitten and holding her up for the other vets to see.

What breed do you have Liz, cos it normally only affects long and semi longhairs? C.x.

It was a Burmilla that was "caught" with it, it wasn't anything that any vet would normally look at twice, but you see it happened when I was tidying him up before judging, found a sort of mini-knot (you know the sort of thing you find on a shorthair occasionally) and like a fool tried to comb through it - out came his hair. It was on the top of his head so rather obvious even thoguh tiny and I imagined a judge would spot it straight away. A fellow exhibtor suggested that I would do well to go back to the vet who passed me at vetting in and point it out to him in case the judge spotted it. Bad move! That vet called in the duty vet and that was it, out we were.

What made it REALLY annoying was that I had a girl in at the same show for her third CC which she probably would have won, and if I had kept my mouth shut she would likely have been judged before the "call the vet over" process was complete. Then to cap it all, after all that, I have no idea how, the said girly got some sort of bald spot on her ear - tiny and no lesion but still, a bald spot - and the hair never did grow back. I did not dare show her again so she never did get that third CC. I never got a viable litter from her either despite several attempts, she just wasn't cut out for motherhood at all. But I comfort myself sometimes with the knowledge that she beat the first UKGRCH of her breed at the supreme show in 1995, aged exactly nine months (though I admit I was surprised!)

Yeah, Liz, that rings so many bells with me. That girl of mine could be champion by now especially since blue tabby's are now a recognised colour in Persians. I carried my ringworm free certificate with me to about 3 other show after 2003 I was that paranoid about it

Yeah, dont know if the Burmilla was yours or someone else's but they are semi LH too and quite prone to it, and it does start like that. A bit of dandruff and the coat underneath it is really loose and pulls out in a clump. Then the clumps get bigger and the pig spreads.

There are not many longhair breeders that will admit to having had this as it is a bit of a taboo subject. However I know I did, 5 years ago, and got full clearance back then. Thank god for some things C.x.

Burmilla, not Birman - shorthair. But yes he was mine.

I've got a better story - once upon a time some strange woman phoned in response to a kitten advert I had placed. She wanted me to go round and see her, it sounded like fun so I did. She had lots of cats, mainly recently acquired (she couldn't afford one of mine, fortunately). After we had been chatting for a couple of hours, she produced a bottle of griseofulvin and said "O by the way, we've got ringworm"

I went home, threw my clothes in the washing machine, and got into the shower with a bottle of disinfectant!

I see that at one stage the cat welfare trust sponsored research into a vaccine against ringworm. So what happened, I wonder?

Nothing as far as I know, its always the long and semilonghairs it attacks. If anyone came near to me with it at the mo, I think I would be up for murder
