Re: Ring Worm

OK. my cats are 50% persian, 50% BSH. So i guess technically they r medium hair. but their hair is very short.

When I get home i will comb them with a fine comb to see

Re: Ring Worm

It can also be caught by semi-longhairs, like your ragdolls, maine coons, birman's etc. Should be easy enough to spot in yours if they have it

Re: Ring Worm

Well I see nothing, nor did the vet, but we got them tested to be sure. This is why im confused?

Ragdolls? Why are they rag dolls. I think the phrase rings a bell, but i have no idea what that is

No, they took a bit of hair, and charged me £80 to let it sit in a little tub for 2 weeks! When I have been googling ring worm, what you mention (wood's lamp) seems to be the most common way to test them, and it sounds alot easier quicker simpler and cheaper than the way they did ours

yeah i just went in the vets they put the cat on the table turned out the light and it showed up with the lamp,, they kept them in for a while to shave the areas,, and gave me tablets and some shampoo stuff,i had to wear gloves,,,,and keep them confined to a small area so they didnt spread the spores i think they said,,, it tok a while before it cleared up,,,,,,,,,,,,,

The wood's lamp doesnt always pick up on it, I believe because there are diffent types or strains. The laboratory test is the only surefire way of detecting it unfortunately.

Re: Ring Worm

Right I have been thinking and now have a plan of action.

I am going to buy some Virkon to disenfect the carpets with, and some special shampoo to wash them with (I will ask the vets what they are ordering then tell them to cancel it and get it myself for alot cheaper.). And I will probably get the antibiotics from the vets as obviously i cannot buy them legally.

And I WONT be getting them shaved.
