cat grooming

Hi

My moggie is quite hairy and she has started getting matted fur on her tummy and poo sticking in hair on her bum and tail.

There is no chance she will let me near her to sort it out, she won't even let me cut her claws!!

Is there anyone I can take her too to gently get her sorted without stressing her out - like a dog groomers or would the vet do it?

how much can I expect to pay?

I really want to get her sorted so I can start again and brush her to keep her silky soft!

Love me!

Re: cat grooming

Hi if you have a longhaired breed you should be prepared to groom your cat at least a couple times a week.Preferebly every other day, prevention is better than a cure.If you groom daily it will be a pleasant experience, leave it to the stage when they are matted,it will be a painful one.If you take her to the vets they will probably shave her/him,you could contact a groomer and ask advice.Invest in a rake brush for long haired breeds. As far as the bum end goes has he/she got diareah? you could trim the hair around her bum with some rounded ended baby scissors.

best brush ever is a zoom groom made of rubber, they massage the cat whilst getting lots of hair out gently. i have to trim my grey cats behind or she gets cling ons
i get her fur between 2 fingers just like a hair dresser, then trim. cant say she likes it but its much nicer than cling ons and a bath. i do this monthly.
i also trim both my cats claws as they are indoor cats. i lay their backs on my lap and just take off the very tip with nail clippers. i check them weekly altho the back claws grow slower, so do not always need doing. good luck

Re: cat grooming

thanks for your advice

her bum prblem is just 'cling ons' and I know prevention is better than the cure which is why I want to cure then go onto prevent in the future... if that makes sense!!!

There is no chance she will let me do it for her and I don't want to upset her, I have tried to trim her bum before and she got very stressed.

where would I find someone to groom a cat?

How much would the vet cost to sort her out do you think?

Macy dont like bein trimmed but i dont give her a choice, i put her on my bedroom window sill when i trim her, its less distressing than a bath or pulling cling ons off! give it a try, i'd only goet someone else to do it if I was gonna get hurt.

Re: cat grooming

i know personally id rather trim my pussy than gettin a stranger to do it, my macy is shy and dont like bieng handled, i think it would be less destressing for me to trim her than to get someone else to do it. some times you have to be cruel to be kind, macy is certainly more tollerant as she is gettin used to me trimming her regularly.
