Can cats get Hayfever?

Hello. Nice to meet you all

I am looking for some advice/your opinions....

My little man is normally a very vocal cat, but two days ago, his meow begain to sound like he had a sore throat. He was off his food for a day, but even tho he is now is eating well, he sounds very horse when he mews....

Exactly the same thing happened this time last year, and I took him to the vet where they put him under to see if there was a grass seed there... which there wasn't.... so I was wondering... can gets get hayfever???

Could he have layrengitis (which is what they said it was last time).
I spoke to my vet this morning who said I could give him some metacam to see if that helps.... he isnt coughing or sneezing.

He gets hysterical in the car, so was wondering if anyone had experienced the same thing and had any home solutions before I stress him out and take him to the vet.

Thanks in advance for your replies
