Re: cat litter

We used to use FullersEarth but even though cleaned regularly 1 wee/poo and it would retain a smell and with a multi cat house as most of you will know it's not good, mind you with 1 cat it's not good, anyway now we use woodlitter which for our house is great, except at first 2 of our girls Rosie and Trinity would not under any circumstances use it until we found a woodbase with slightly smaller and softer pellets-so far so good my old man moggie Noodles even uses it and it's recyclable which is mostly good news come bin collection dayFor me anyway coz me and the girls pol as the binmen nearly rip their arms off trying to move itOne of our kitts doesn't like the feel of the woodbase, so we use something similar to catsan, she approves but i hate the stuff as it tracks absolutely everywhere

Melissa is on a distinguished road
Re: cat litter

Catsan is very good for whiffs, woodbase has a nice pine smell, but when used turns to sawdust, which can be a pain, crystal litters are good as they absorb the wet and hold it, no smell, but can be a bit rough on their paws. We all know how cat's have their preferences!!

Re: cat litter

Perhaps Alan and Vixen should 'get a room'.
Only two enemies Alan?!

We use the wood pellet and chick crumb.
Yep - that stuff that chicks eat!

We started off using the very expensive Swheat at £25-30 for a big bag. We then found out that chick crumb is the same sort of consistency and at around £6 for a bag of comparable size - well there was no contest.

The wood pellet is used for the older cats, and older kittens. The chick crumb for the tiny weeny babies when they are litter training.

Re: cat litter

Sorry. Got distracted.

Doing the litter trays is *almost* a pleasure with wood pellet - esp the one that we use (from Best Pets cash and carry). When it gets peed on it releases a piney smell - as long as you don't leave it too long in which case it just smells of wee.

The downside with the wood pellet that if you're not on top of the litter tray the pellets break down into sawdust which the cats track everywhere.
There's always litter on the floor - even minutes after I swept.

Chick crumb-never heard of it but will look into it,is it softer for the kitts?I hate it when it tracks and they seem to leave no part of the room untrackedI'm sure they laugh to themselves when watching us clean like "Watch how fast i can make it look like it did 1 minute ago"D
