Good weaning food for Kittens?

Please can people advise a good weaning feed for Kittens? what is the best age to start weaning them(I was told approx 3 weeks on wards) and would you mix the weaning food with Lactol at first?

Any advice greatly appreciated.
Thanks

Re: Good weaning food for Kittens?

Hi my babies would start around 4 weeks and no i wouldnt use lactos as mums milk should be enough
Not all babies are ready to wean at the same time so dont fals feed them they will eat as and when they are ready.
I normaly start them with wet kitten food such as felix or whiskers, also i use kitten dry food RC or JWB but i would soak it in boiled cooled water and make it mushy like a drink
Dont for get to worm them from 2 weeks onwards hope this helps

Re: Good weaning food for Kittens?

dont use drontal on the kittens it is too strong for them,
I would rec you use Panacur paste this is safe for the kittens and also Pregnant queens,
and the frontline can be used from two days old but i would only use a very small amount on the kittens If they needed it,

Re: Good weaning food for Kittens?

I wouldn't routinely use an oral wormer on kittens -heard too many reports of bad reactions. I use Profender spot-on just before the kittens leave me. They do not have worms anyway, all of my cats live indoors. Profender is so much easier and it comes in different strengths for kittens and adults. Only available from vets though.

Like KK I don't routinely use wormer on kittens. I use Milbemax about 12 days before they are due to leave me.

I used to use whiskas kitten pouches (like candy to kittens) and boiled chicken breast. Now I use minced chicken, minced rabbit and minced day old chicks!

Where do you get the day-old chicks? I've been thinking about trying these for my cats for ages but never got round to it.
