Unhappy Kitty has diarrhea - help!

We have a year old Tonkinese male at home and got him a playmate 2 weeks ago. She is also Tonkinese and is almost 6 months old. This morning we noticed that she had diarrhea and I don't know the cause. It is not horrible runny diarrhea, still pretty thick but definitely not hard poos. She has been pooing fine since we got her - she definitely has very stinky poos though (more so than my older kitty). We didn't ween her into the new food which may have been a mistake but my other cat was fine when we got him.

My new kitty was eating Royal Canin with the breeder and we now feed her EVO kitten & cat dry food and also Avoderm wet food for breakfast and dinner. I noticed the other day that she was eating my other kitties wet food after finishing her own. I think she may be enjoying this new food too much and over eating. Is this the most likely cause? I also heard that Pedialyte might be good to give her. Please help! I couldn't get into the vet until Monday but hopefully she's fine by tomorrow!

Thanks!!!!!!

Re: Kitty has diarrhea - help!

Overeating can be the cause of diarrhoea and it's certainly worth cutting her food down. I'd watch her closely over the weekend and then see the vet on Monday if you need to.

Dont let your kitty go for to long with runny stools. They go down hill quickly at a young age. Hope it gets sorted out very soon. Id put it on a light diet of white fish or chicken for a day or so to see if it firms up. It may be that one of the foods you may be giving maybe not agreeing with it maybe. Our it may be its just picked a little bug up.

Re: Kitty has diarrhea - help!

If indeed overeating is the cause I would suggest the homeopathic remedy Nux Vomica 30c potency. One or two doses should correct the issue. It can rapidly relieve the discomfort and diarrhea caused by a change in diet, overeating or the food being too rich. I recently attended a holistic veterinary workshop. The veterinarian used, 'Pet Remedy Charts' to teach the class. They are awesome! They make charts for Homeopathy, Herbal Medicine, Flower Remedies and Acupressure as well. They give you remedy suggestions and and exactly how to dose them for every condition you can imagine. Their better than books, I use them all the time and carry them with me where ever I go. They make them for dogs, cats, horses or birds. Their not expensive. I got mine online at petremedycharts .com I live in the US so I'm not sure if they ship internationally or not but it would be worth finding out.
