What kind of litter do you use?

I have recently learned the ill effects of clumping litter (I know I'm behind). What kind of litter do you use? Is clumping as bad as people say? I have had no trouble with it so far...

What ill effects?

We've just started using World's Best (wouldn't use anything else now) for indoors and we use wood based for the catteries.

Re: What kind of litter do you use?

I use pets at home wood based litter. Its £8 odd and for two cats last about 3-4 weeks.

I didn't like the clumping litter, it was always messy and all over the carpet.

Re: What kind of litter do you use?

I use the cheep cat litter from tesco, think its clay type. I have 2 indoor cats and one bag will last about 10 days and it is cleaned out every day, some times twice.
I have tryed others at the min with one of the cats haveing an operation we have used some papper litter and that bag has lasted 2 weeks, i quite like it also it dosent seem as messy as the above one i have mentioned.

Re: What kind of litter do you use?

The rumour I heard (and I 'm not sure how accurate it is now) is that it's extremely harmful when inhaled or ingested. Once it's inside the cat or kitten it clumps because of the natural digestive fluids in the stomach. Then the cat can't eliminate or eat. Has anybody heard this?

Re: What kind of litter do you use?

As i foster recues i have a variety of litter.

Most of my trays have worlds best in, some have clay based (tescos own), one has yesterdays news and another has asda woodbased lol

That way new cats cat make the transition easier. Of them all i prefer worlds best

Re: What kind of litter do you use?

I use Benevo clumping litter - similar to Oko. I hadn't heard anything about problems with clumping litter.
I just googled it and it seems to be clay based litters than can be a problem. Oko and Benevo use plant fibre which does not have the dust problem like clay litters

Re: What kind of litter do you use?

I use Everclean which is a clumping litter. I have to say it does track but I find it amazing for smells! It's £10 for a 10Kg box rather expensive but not so in the long run if that makes sense
