I could be wrong and correct me if I am, but if you were uninsured as you were switcing insurers would this even be covered?

From what I know most insurers don't cover for existing conditions and I have seen one that doesnt pay for illnesses in the first few days of your policy.

Like I said I could be wrong though

Re: has my vet over charged me?

I believe the OP was asking about insurance payout period so she can speak to her vet about paying in a little while, where as they are asking for all the money up front... where as if it was going through insurance they would quite likely have to wait for the money anyway...

I only posted that as she said in her first post she didnt have insurance, therefore I was highlighting the possibility that it may not be covered.

Like I said if she now has a new policy I hope she is

Re: has my vet over charged me?

no i aint insured but i want to make it clear that i dont have th emoney upfront and if i did have insurance they would have to wait anyway for that. as iv known insurance cmpanies not pay up for months. cough * E & L* cough!

and im just pissed that my kitten had to wait so long for the operation. i mean if they didnt have any staff availble they should have told me upfront and i would have gone to a different vet. but they just kept palming me of each day. misty must have gone through some hell int hose days. i know she was on painkillers but still! she has such a beautiful temperment and well cats have high pain threshhold so they dont know exactly how much pain she was in!

Re: has my vet over charged me?

on the payout bit, some are slow and some are good - my friend who is with Petplan had a payout within 3 days - of a few hundred pounds. Will the vets not agree to a payment plan?

Re: has my vet over charged me?

Oh I see what you mean now. Like spid said could you agree a repayment plan with them? Perhaps you could make a lump sum payment to pay some off and then the rest by instalments?

If another vet has said there was no need to wait 4 days, could you get them to confirm this in writing for you? I would consider making a complaint to the vets about delaying the operation for several days through no fault of yours has therefore incurred further costs you wouldnt have had to pay and ask as a guesture of goodwill if they can write these costs off.

Just an idea!

I think thats a very good idea. I have no idea why they should have waited really, to leave a cat that needs an op in discomfort is just wrong, surely they could have got someone in from another surgery to do it if the person wasn't available at the right time? We were sent to a specialist surgery because my vets could not do the op and said he would have the best prognosis going to this hospital.

I hope there is some improvement today, its so awful to see them unwell!

Izzie

Re: has my vet over charged me?

It's the money adviser coming out in me, dealing with things like this is part of my job

I am not saying that it will work but it's worth a try, I would ask then for a full breakdown of the balance and then highlight all the charges "that were the vets fault" and then send this back to them with your complaint asking them to be removed.

If they won't do this you could try another angle, explain to them that due to their "error" the costs have increased to more than you budgeted for and you want time to pay in instalments you can afford

Re: has my vet over charged me?

yeah im trying to sort some payment plans out, they want like asbout £800 in one go then will see about sorting something out but aint prepared to sort sumit out until they have a lump some.

i have spoken to rspca and nspcd and they are willing to help me a little bit and pay about £250 which is something but i cant get hold of anyone to speak to them about the first part of my bill, before the operation. they keep fobbing me off! typical!

Re: has my vet over charged me?

write a letter to the vetinery manager as a formal complaint- state what you want and why you want it, give them 14 days to respond. Send the letter registered post any keep a copy.

Anything like this should be done in writing so you have proof, that's always the first thing I say to clients in when they want to dispute something
