Re: Really poorly cat

So sorry to hear about Archie.

We have a particular moggie who's very accident prone. She'd already lost her tail in one accident and then she didn't come in for a couple of nights. Fortunately my partner heard her crying late one night and we managed to find her under a neighbours bush. She was suffering from hyperthermia and shock and appeared to have been hit by a car.

The vet told us she probably wouldn't survive but she amazed everyone and apart from a missing tooth and slight brain damage, she has short term memory loss, she is fine.

I hope Archie pulls through.

xx

Re: Really poorly cat

The vet just called. It was only a short call because there wasn't much to say, but it appears that over the last few ours his condition has stayed pretty much the same. He is no better, but at least he has not gone any further down hill. I don't think he can actually get any worse. But they have given him a drug to help with his blood pressure (I don't know what) and that has apparently had a positive effect on his heart and is blood pressure is up slightly. Fingers crossed that he will start to get stronger. They are going to call me again in a couple of hours...

Re: Really poorly cat

Hi.
Really feel for you on this. Is there any way you could go to visit Archie? Even if its just to stroke him, it might help him too knowing you are there. I know it is late but I would hope that the vet would realise you are so worried. Fingers crossed.

Re: Really poorly cat

I really want to go and see him, but he is 40 miles away in Hertfordshire and I am in SE London. He's all the way out there because the immediate concern was his pelvis and they have orthopedic specialists there... I am still glad that he is there as they have an intensive care unit, who are caring for him now, and 24 hour care... So if anyone can help him, they can. Just please God he pulls through. It's another nerve wrecking couple of hours until I hear from them again, and then a sleepless night praying that he makes it through til the morning.

He was not moving and was obvioulsy in huge pain. We rushed him straight to the emergency vet who was able to stabalise him with an IV drip, some pain killers and antibiotics. It transpires that he has broken his pelvis in two places and has a massive hematoma on his stomach. Yesterday the prognosis was good. He was stable and the specialist that he is with said that he may not need surgery, despite quite a bit of displacement. The main worry was whether the nerve leading to his bladder had been damaged, but the signs were good. Today he has gone really down hill. His breathing is laboured and his bloodpressure is really low. His temperature has also gone down and he has fluid on his lungs. I have been told to expect the worse. I guess I am looking for stories with a happy ending to focus on because at the moment I feel like I am going to vomit I am so worried. Any advice or positive stories will be hugely appreciated. Thanks xx
Hi,

I am so sorry to hear about Archie, I really hope he pulls through for you. I know its hard but you just have to show him you are being positive. Cats really pick up on that, maybe as someone else suggested you can visit him and just sit and stroke him. I am sure he will benefit a lot from that.

I hope you get some good news soon.

Izzie

Re: Really poorly cat

This morning I was so happy. The vet called and although his condition hadn't improved it hadn't gotten any worse either. Things looked, in my opinion, better as he was awake and was sitting up. However, I got another call in the afternoon and Archie had taken a turn for the worse. I had to rush to the hospital straigh from work (two tubes, two trains and a cab) because the vet really thought they were losing him.

So, I have been to see him and he is in such a bad way. I think that he recognised me, but his heart rate went up a bit when I was talking to him so I realy didn't want to stress him out any more than he is already. His heart rate is around 240 beats per minute. I just don't know how long his little heart is going to hold out.

He is so beautiful and such a kind cat, and has so much life ahead of him, he's only four. I can't believe that we are going to lose him. The vet told me that he doesn't think that he will make it. I know that he has to be honest, but it's not easy to hear.

I am currently on the edge of passing out with sheer worry and fear. I am struggling to breathe. I am trying to think positive still, but it is so hard. I can't eat, I can't think, I can't even watch TV to take my mind off of my little Archie.

They are going to call again later, all I can do is hope and pray that his breathing has settled down a bit in the last couple of hours. I have never been so frightened in my life.

Re: Really poorly cat

awh I hope Archie pulls a big turn around for you and starts improving *hugs*

like they say it is darkest before dawn... I'll pray for you and Archie that he starts back on the road to recovery for you... He is in the best possible place to get better.

Mabel, my semi-feral outside cat, broke her hip, leg, paw and several ribs when thrown from a moving car (we think...) and she was pregnant, yet without veterinary treatment she somehow moved into our garage, succesfully raising Indy when we found her! she will always have a limp but she pulled through.

I hope Archie gets well soon for you and Monty *hugs* for you all
