16 week old kitten pooing issues

Hi,

we recently got this kitten and for the last 4 weeks it has been pooing on absolutely everything. It knows how to use its litter box but its poop just seems to leak out everywhere and is constantly running down its tail and leg. It leaves crap trails over us, our clothes, the couches, beds, inside anything it gets into and all over the carpet. We have tried putting it near the poop when we catch him afterwards as we can smell it within 2 minutes of him doing his smelly runny poop. We "scold" him in a semi-abrupt voice and make him know that its naughty then place him on the litter box and when we see it doing its business on the box we make it feel good and pat it etc. We have wormed him the second time around and have been keeping him on a diet of water and dry food. We thought that the wet cat food and kitten milk might be making his crap runny but this has had no effect. When we got the kitten we were told that he had been de-flead, wormed and was toilet trained. Only to find out he was infested with both worms and fleas and thinks pooing on our stuff and making the house smell of his poop as normal.

Please help us!

Is our kitten dieing? Sick? We have a baby due in two months and need this sorted now as my partner cannot go near the poop with all that yukky bacteria.

Take your kitten to the vets!

im going with medication, which you can get from the vets after they have diagnosed what is wrong with your kitten

its obviously more than a question of diet

Re: 16 week old kitten pooing issues

AFAIK Weaned puppies or kittens should be wormed every 2 weeks until 12 weeks of age. Then every month until
6 months of age when they can be treated as adults.
It doesnt sound like your kitten is very well at all, there shouldnt be that amount of waste leaking from it all the time.
I would say that you need to get your kitten to the vet asap, i would imagine that it may be in some discomfort if that is happening all the time.
Good luck.

It certainly sounds to me like this kitten needs to see the vet.... and soon. His poo's should be firm not sloppy. If he constantly has diarrhoea then there must be a reason for it. It might be something as simple as a food allergy and the dry food you are giving him might very well be the cause. Try not to be too harsh with him when he does poo, as he's probably feeling quite miserable about being in such a mess all the time anyway. Cats are very clean by nature, so for him to be constantly covered in poo must be quite stressful for him.

Re: 16 week old kitten pooing issues

As I said in your other thread - this kitten NEEDS to see a vet - involuntary leakage from the anus is NOT NORMAL and needs vetinary assistance. If it happened to you or your two year old or your wife would you tell them off, or smack them, or constantly put them on the toilet? No, you would take them to the doctors (especially after 4 weeks) - please take the poor wee thing to the vets!

Re: 16 week old kitten pooing issues

This is not a disciplinary issue, this poor kitten must be feeling a lot worse about it than you do, this is absolutely abnormal, the kitten needs to see a vet as soon as possible!
It could be viral, it could be a parasite like giardia or tritrichdemonas foetus, but it won't go away by itself, and punishment for being ill is completely inappropriate.
Please take this poor thing to the vet.

Re: 16 week old kitten pooing issues

I too answered this previous thread & did suggest a test for Tritrichomonas Foetus (TF) I think from what you are describing that it does sound like this. Although there maybe a simpler solution & the kitten needs worming??

Cats are normally very clean animals but as you described involuntary leakage & the smell my first port of call would be to test for TF as I said in the other thread!
