tongue

we have a long haired tortoise shell cat Lucy. she is 15yrs old. We have had her since she was 6 weeks old and is adored by the whole family. Well we noticed lucy hasnt been grooming herself lately and her fur is matted, today we noticed shes loosing weight and the last 4 days been off her food. we have tried all different food. Also lucy has been drooling, we took her to the pdsa today, my husband and me.. i have ill health and my hubby is my carer so we dont work. Well we had a shock the vet had a quick look in lucy mouth and told us she has a tumour on the base of her tongue.. i am so upset and like the rest of the family. We got some painkiller medicine to give her once a day, i went and brought lucy some mackeral and she ate a bit of that. we got to take her back next week, to see how she is, though if she deteriates over the week we got to go back sooner. next week if she picked up a bit they are going to start her on steriods, to try to shrink the tumour. fingers crossed. doeS anyone else have this problem and would it shrink/?

Re: tongue

Hello
I have just read your message about your beloved cat Lucy.
Although I cannot give you any advice on this tongue problem.
I think if I were you I would make sure that she was not in any pain or discomfort.
Also is her quality of life still good?
Does she still want to go out and does she still likes to be stroked?
It might be worth a second vet to look at her and see what they think.
It's really hard sometimes being a pet owner, as we love them so much and they are a big part of the family.

I also have two cats aged fifteen and one has a lump on him, but their quality of life is good and so i take each day as it comes.

I hope the treatment works for Lucy.

Re: tongue

So sorry to hear about Lucy - it is hard when they are ill. Thinking of you but I can't offer advice.

Re: tongue

hi many thanks for the support. we are taking lucy back tomorrow and we are hoping they are going to start her on steriods . Lucy as been going in the garden the last 3 days and she is wanting strokes, and plenty of attention. We have been giving her all special food, haddock, cod, tuna, ham she loves. turkey, chicken and she is now eating fairly well. Her mouth is still drooling though , but i spose it would do if her tongue isnt good. My daughter and i washed her paws for her the other day and shes been washing her face bless her. we love her so much and just hope its good news. Shall let you all know. thanks
