Knott/lug removing?

Hi Im stugging to get the lugs out of my mid/long haired cat?
I know what needs to be done but he won't sit still and let me get at the lug and I think very are close to the skin!
I rescued the cat about a month ago so still getting his trust slowly!
Any tips on getting him to like being groomed?

I'd say get one of these if you don't have one, they're great! Pet Supplies, Pet Food, and Pet Products on Sale Now at zooplus.co.uk

Then... bribe him with catnip, food, toys, anything and try to do just a little grooming at a time so that he gets used to it? Other than that I have no ideas! I've been lucky to have my cat since he was a kitten so he's used to brushing and I've had no problems.. touch wood!

Hopefully someone else will be able to help you more

Oooh that looks good but is it easy to catch their skin on it?? I really dont want to have Audrey sedated just so the vets can cut her matts out (she's terrified of the clippers!), so i'm looking for other options

Hi,

You don't have to get them sedated, but you could use rescue remedy, quite a few dropperfuls and spray your hands with felifriend, give it half hour to take effect. I find stitch breakers the best way to break a knot even close to the skin, you should then be able to tease it apart.

Good luck.

Izzie

Thanks got a similar one to that, I think I need to be a bit more confident and a bit more stronger with him. It is not really sharp enough to get through the big ones, good job really!
Not so scared of a little blood loss? (Me not the cat!)

Have tried rescue remedy and felifriend....Audrey is very, very timid. She might like being groomed but she isnt happy when the sccisors come near, or i constantly pull at her lugs to try and get them out I'm beginning to think sedation is the last option

I'm hearing you on this!!

Henry spots scissors at 20 paces, and I've just got a course of anti-biotics and the pill-giver has loops like scissors and he hates that too...

My vet has a Persian just like mine and he says he does an annual 'trouser trim' about this time of year under mild sedation, and suggested if I wanted he would do the same for me... I'm trying to avoid it by combs/rakes at the moment though...

Re: Knott/lug removing?

Hi,

Well if you have tried everything else maybe a vet trim is necessary. My cats run from nail clippers lol! I even change which ones I use to fool them and they still work it out. I wouldn't mind but we have never had a nicked nail or bad experience, they just don't like it at all.

Izzie

That looks great, think i will recommend it to my neighbour.. One of their long haired cats just will not groom himself and is covered in mats, he only sits still long enough for her to cut out one or two at a time.. and hates the vet, will bite him!
