Advice from emergency vet - opinions wanted for Siamese kitten!

So, it feels like all I ever do is come on here and ask about some injury one of my cats has sustained!
This time... Logi (5 1/2 month Siamese kitten) has just fallen from a bookshelf that runs around the top of our stairwell. It wasn't from the highest point, but it is about 6ft off the ground, landing on the stairs (so not a flat landing)

He stood looking shocked, and he has a little blood running from his nose. He's sneezing blood specks, and breathing as tho, well - as tho he has blood in his nose!

I rang the emergency vet (of course!) and he very calmly said that falls in cats are not as bad as they can be in humans, and to treat him like a kid who's had a bit of a fall. I.e, keep him calm, get him to bed, keep an eye on him. etc.

Is there anything I should be looking out for that would instigate a visit to the vet asap?

He's eating, drinking, walking... and currently sleeping.

And as an offshoot to this, Logi sneezed blood right into my face. In my eyes, mouth - everywhere. Is there anything that *I* should be worried about? (apart from the mess) Can humans catch anything from cat blood?
*sigh*

well i think you need to change your vets, if this was my siamese and they was sneezing blood i would have them at the vets asap.

i would ring a vets and get him in now and they can check him over, he must have hurt himself, due to bllod coming out of his nose.

Re: Advice from emergency vet - opinions wanted for Siamese kitten!

I must admit I was surprised at the advice too, hence posting on here!
He's showing no other signs and the blood is drying up now. I've checked his teeth, eyes, what I can feel for bone damage, and he genuinely seems normal. He doesn't get upset with me prodding at him, unless i try and wipe the blood - then he sneezes over me.
It wasn't my usual vet - they have an answerphone message for out of hours that diverts to a 24hr line depending on the area you select. This was some place in East Molesey. I'm not even sure where the nearest 24hr drop-in is from here. I'm keeping a close eye on him atm and will ring my actual vet tomorrow whatever happens.
This kitten must have used up at least 2 lives already!

KEEP HIM AWAKE!!! he could be concussed!! Bleeding from the nose after a fall is not a good sign!! you need to take him to the vets for observation. I'm sorry that vet gave you horrible advice!!

Re: Advice from emergency vet - opinions wanted for Siamese kitten!

Hi Cody, thanks for the concern. I spent all night awake with Logi, and he honestly seems fine. I looked on the Internet about advice for fallen cats, and the biggest concern seems to be broken upper palate or teeth. I checked him carefully and nothing is broken. The sneezes went from red to pink, to clear (no blood) and he has a little dried blood on the edge of one nostril. Otherwise he is back to his mischievous self. He's eating, miaowing, purring, running, chasing, playing etc. He lets me touch him (so no discomfort) and so I'm not really sure what else to do. He's going to the vet first thing tomorrow anyway so he'll have a good check-over then.
I can't say I wasn't completely scared for him, but perhaps the emergency vet was right?

One of mine did something similar last week and I remember reading about falling and I am sure it said look out for bleeding from the nose and mouth. I too am surprised by the vets approach.
