Re: calicivirus

Calici is shed constantly by an infected cat - herpes is shed intermittently or perhaps not at all, after initial infection.
All this is on the FAB website

There is only a short period of time that the cats will shed it for and then if carriers it's usually brought on again by a lot of stress x

There's such a large amount of cats that have these things in their system unfortunately, until they can find a cure for it all we can do is wait x however even then with so many strains of the virus it would be very hard to cure them all i'm sure - but at least it would be a start x

Re: calicivirus

I think that's unlikely unless they are re-infected by another cat. I understand it does take several weeks (4-6) treatment with antibiotics (doxycycline is said to be the best) to clear it completely.

Re: calicivirus

If we're talking calicivirus, then I'm afraid your vet is wrong - well over 50% of infected cats eliminate the virus, although they can be reinfected at a later date (there are many different strains of this virus and vaccines are not very effective against it)

If you read the information on the FAB website, this will confirm what I've said (I don't expect anyone to believe me, I've only owned cats for 27 years, been breeding for 19 years and have always taken a particular interest in feline disease and treatment, being a biochemist myself - nothing of any use really) The information on the FAB site is written by feline specialist vets, so I reckon they know what they're talking about.........

No, it won't put me off at all - I'm very thick-skinned and was just practising my sarcasm
