depends how good an immune system, diet and up to date vaccines are - some cats may not show many symptoms at all x

Bit irresponsible of a vet to spay an ill cat isn't it ? They should be in the peek of health for undergoing surgery. Thats why I assumed the cat was not exhibiting symptoms.

Agreed,i was assuming op`s cat showed some physical symtoms otherwise why would she have been swabbed for calci?

Some vets do suggest swabs/blood tests for reasons only known to them - usually financial. They do not need to have seen symptoms to suggest it. The swab could have been a test for any number of viruses, it was just that calici came back positive.

As I said before, what vet would put a cat with flu symptoms under anaesthetic for a non emergency procedure.

Thats odd as I was told that claci stays with them for life and does herpes but chlmadyia can be cured!

I only spoke to me vet the other day about it, do they have miss-information?

if you visit various sites on it you can get conflicting info too,very confusing best information is from people who have experienced/treated it

You need to speak to vets who are feline specialists. Look out for the NBA seminar, they always have excellent guest speakers who are feline specialists/vets and know what they are talking about. I think the FAB run one from time to time too.
