Natural /holistic tick and flea treatments

Hi,
just wondered if anyone has tried any 'natural' treatments against fleas and ticks ? I live in a welsh sheep farming area, so need protection against both these pests..., and usually use 'frontline combo',, (and drontal for worms)...but I hate treating my 'puddies' (cats !!) with such strong chemicals , and just wondered if anyone knows of anything safe that will do the same thing as the 'frontline' ?
A lot of people seem to suggest garlic..?. ((but I have read on some sites that garlic can be toxic to cats..??.)), others seem to suggest the B vits can help (like brewers yeast)...anyway, does anyone know, or can anyone help ?!!

Garlic or a little Brewers Yeast (for dogs). Yes Garlic is toxic for cats. Neem oil is supplosed to work and we are just testing a Neem oil shampoo on our cats at the moment. If use use just the oil it should be used in very small quantities and well diluted.

Some people recommend dyna-mite for dogs http://www.doghealth.co.uk/dyna-mit.html and INSECTICUTE from Dog for Life Dog For Life - Natural hand made dog care products for the United Kingdom (website menu doesn't always highlight but if you just click on the lines it works) this can be used for dogs and cats.

Re: Natural /holistic tick and flea treatments

Thanks you two for the advice and the website links...!!
Both my cats are 'raw fed' cats, so it was interesting to read up some more on that subject ! -But I digress, so back to the flea treatment thing- I think I will try the untreated 'DE', which one of the links says you can apply small amounts to the fur... and combine that with some Brewers yeast in with their food... another site I have found also reccomends using cedar wood shavings inside /around the cats bedding, ( and this can also be applied to soft furnishings- under cushions etc) to prevent flea infestations.
Your cats look beautiful Karen...I am an animal artist by trade ( having been made redundant !) but I have always painted- would it be OK to paint one of your cats ? ( If I painted my own I wouldnt be able to sell the paintings !!)...I work on a large scale, so the paintings look very dramatic when they are done, and your photos look clear enough to paint from..I would just need your permission to use them ? Have a think and let me know ! Thanks again for the advice,
Jax.
