Re: Siamese inner-eye question
Do you mean the haw covering the corner of his eye ? That is quite common in siamese and orientals, especially in some lines where they have deeper set eyes. Jelly bits in the corner of the eyes go hand in hand with those that are deeper set too.
They grow out of it eventually, but when they are young, their haws tend to be up more if they are tired or stressed.

Re: Siamese inner-eye question
I have to admit I don't know what a haw is!* Never seen it on the other 5 cats we've ever had in our household over the years.. but then I've only ever had moggies before. Are you able to tell from that photo if Logi has deeper set eyes? Again, I can't really tell! (boy do I feel stupid!)
I would imagine he is both tired and stressed as he's only been with us a month and is still getting used to Lancelot (our other cat) He did the howling non-stop thing for two weeks but that has since got better. If I ran around as much as he did I'd be tired too! ![]() Thanks for the reply.. it's definitely put my mind a bit more at rest. *Just looked up 'haw' and realised its another term for inner eye.. so yes.. that is the bit I mean! ![]() Last edited by thelioncub; 24-03-2009 at 05:04 PM. |

Re: Siamese inner-eye question
saikou is absolutely right, Siamese have deeper set eyes that can be prone to a little blob or crust every now and again. It should be translucent when wet and dark when dry and that is perfectly normal. Anything very runny, wet or yellow or green needs to see a vet as that could mean some infection.

Re: Siamese inner-eye question
One of my cats (not Siamese though) has had this for the past couple of weeks. Totally freaked me out at first! Took her to the vets and she had conjuctivitus. We had antibiotic drops, her eye seems better, less sore, but her 'haws' are still up slightly. She has also developed a slight clear discharge.
Her sister has been diagnosed with a blocked tear duct, and after trying various eye drops and ointments, the vet advised that if it is not causing her distress to leave it as it is, just clean it and keep an eye on it (pardon the pun!). Her discharge has stained the side of her nose, she looks like she has a black eye!! They are both white too so any mark on them is obvious. ![]() I think Rossi has been a bit down lately too, which could also be another reason for the 'haws'. Casey has been lying in Rossi's favourite spot for the last few weeks, and we have noticed a severe case of the pouts!!! Who needs kids eh?! ![]() |
