siamese kitten
Hi,
We have a 3 month old Siamese kitten (male), the breeder who we got him off told us he has a protruding sternum. He told us that it will have no affect on the kitten and when he grows up, we just wont be able to show him which we wasn't going to do anyway ( family pet ). Can anyone give me a little bit more info on this?, i have look at a few pages on the internet which seem to back up what the breeder was saying. A few pages say it is common in siamese cats Regards Chris |

Re: siamese kitten
i have not had this problem with my kittens but yes the breeder is right,i have read up on this and i think it is a problem that can affect pedigree cats, but if mine had this i would get a vet to have a look at him before selling, and maybe have a letter from the vet to show new owners that he has been checked and all is fine, also i would not sell him for full price.

Re: siamese kitten
Hi ,
Thanks for getting back to me, he has been to the vets for jabs and stuff so i think they would have said something there. Im not bothered about the money as long as its nothing to worry about, he seems fine to me he is ok when i pick him up. Regards, Chris |

Re: siamese kitten
i think if the kitten has fault i would lower my price, my last kitten was the smallest of the pack and no one wanted him for the full price, his baby hair stayed longer than the others so all of the others had nice thick coats and he didn't, so i sold him for less than the others and i do think the main thing when selling kittens is that they have good homes and so this is why i say i would not have charged full price.
i think all breeders do it different and i am guided by two breeders who have 30 years of experience, and i take there advice all the time

Re: siamese kitten
Unless you have any other concerns then I would save yourself and him a vet visit. A sternum outy or inny outy has no health issues what so ever, and on long bodied siamese or orientals can pop at any time.
It is only a show fault therefore if you take the tack that that reduces the value of a pet kitten then you should be reducing the price for tail pips/kinks, high ears, profile dips, pale eye colour, mismatched points, incorrect colour points, squints, bad pinches etc etc
