cat vomiting and other symptoms

hi all

we may well be worrying for nothing but our boy, Syd, has started vomiting. Today and yesterday he had a tiny bit of fish in the morning and evening (he used to guzzle it down) and was then sick. We then noticed he was using the cat run as his toilet rather than the litter tray.

They don't go outside, other than their run, he hasn't eaten anything bad that we can think of. He had cystitis a month or so ago but has been ok since then. He is still affectionate and shiny fur - but we just don't know why he can't keep his food down.

Could it be through stress? There has been a lot of noise in the house recently and it upset him

Or should we just take him to the vet?

thanks everyone

will do - just done a lot of reading up on it, there isn't anything untowards in the vomit so we are hoping he is a little anxious but we have spoken to the vet and will take him in tomorrow if he is still being sick tonight

Hi - i'll tell you my experience with vomiting. Barney started vomiting when he was younger and couldnt keep any food down, after about 2 weeks he became listless and wouldnt use his litter tray. I took him to the vets where they admitted him and it turned out he had a hole in his stomach He was very, very poorly.

When a cate starts vomiting for no apparant reason, I really wouldnt leave it to chance in the hope he becomes better - best to take him to the vets to be on the safe side

Poor baby, I hope he's ok, it could be something as simple as furballs (my Jasper is terrible for them) or it could be stress or something he shouldn't have eaten but managed to sneak in! But definatley worth a visit to the vet as it could be so many things xxx

I also agree with everyone else that you should take your boy to the vets. However, my 2 occassionally vomit after eating - the vet believes it's because they are food guzzlers... i.e. they barely stop eating to take a breath. Despite being a healthy weight and having adequate food quantities, there is little I can do except feed them smaller amounts more frequently.

I hope this is all it is with your boy, and nothing more sinister... Good luck and let us know how you get on.

Re: cat vomiting and other symptoms

thanks everyone - we did take Syd to the vets straight away and it is a good job we did. He was really struggling to use the litter tray and then literally exploded, urine everywhere! He had a blockage and that luckily relieved it - but the vet said it is another bout of cystitus - could be due to stress as th house has been quite noisy, or it could be hereditary. If it happens again, a 3rd time, they will have to do some investigative work on him.

He is now on antibiotics plus a couple of other tablets and is so much better, still so loving and happy, play fighting with Cass (she also emulated his symptoms and decided to throw up everywhere Saturday but is fine now)

Fingers crossed he doesn't have a 3rd episode! Poor mite
