Cat Litter..
My supply is running low, and ive seen this "Cats Best OkoPlus Cat Litter" which looks to be very good.. and they say lasts alot longer than normal litter due to its absorbancy?
But before i go rushing out and buying a 40ltr bag of it.. what are peoples opinions of it? does it track alot? Im currently using wood pellets Thanks for any advice! |

Re: Cat Litter..
When we first got izzy i picked up a couple of the bags of the cat litter that the RSPCA sold.. and for ease i picked up 2 more the last time i needed some..
its only £8 a bag or something, though i cant remember what size the bag is but i think i need to start looking for my own preference, which is why im now looking into it.. The last stuff i picked up from the RSPCA was Platts Superior wood based Kitty litter, though i cant seem to find that on the net hehe |

Re: Cat Litter..
I use the Oko. Zooplus do it for like £22 for 40l, it does come in a massive 40l bag though. I got mine and they came with grit style clumping litter. After about 4 days they were switched onto this. Pets at Home sell smaller bags in case you want to check it out first. I understand that the gold may be better with tracking and I think I may try that next. It does track but then I'd rather have wood bits tracked than small stones. I have a mat, but not a rubbery mat to stop tracking. I would say the furthest litter has gotten though is only about 4m. I have 2 boys and they share a tray. It gets nicely filled up about 4-5 inches deep. It clumps amazingly well. Best thing though is its flushable. You need to kinda wait for it to fall apart in the loo, and then flush each lump separately but it makes a huge difference to putting it in a bin when my bins are communal bins a long hike away. I have a handheld dyson anyway as they're mucky pups with the food too, so I use that for any small bits tracked about.
Anyway, I fill it up, maybe a little top up every few days. I do a total clean out weekly. I had dabbled with every 10 days but as it's 2 using it, I switched quickly back to weekly. In that week I get through 8litres. I would imagine with 1 cat probably about 7litres. Last edited by Number 1; 18-03-2009 at 11:46 AM.. |

Re: Cat Litter..
I used oko plus and it was fab..slightly expensive though so I now use chick crumbs from my local countrywide store which is pretty much exactly the same but costs me £9 for a 40l bag instead!
Its this: (half the price of okoplus) http://www.countrywidefarmers.co.uk/...ProductID=1216

Re: Cat Litter..
Ive got a combination 3 litter trays and 3 different types of litter. As i foster i like to have a selection as some cats refuse to use certain types.
I use.... Tesco/asda value Worlds best Yesterdays news (or a wood based one if i run out lol) Each is different. I have to say I prefer the worlds best (i buy it from pet-supermarket as its usually on offer there). one medium bag in my tray (plus some left over for topping up) lasts me a month! That works out more cost effective. Re the tesco value/ asda smartprice Personally i refuse to pay more for a clay based litter, they are all the same! Why pay more for dyes (pink anyone), scents (oooh flowers and poop), pretty pictures on the bags - ahhhh kittens! The yesterdays news is good, and actually tracks the least here, I will use the tesco/asda wood based one too if i run out and thats not bad. Ive found the trick with the wood/paper based ones is to not fill the tray deep at all. Then empty it every day. just a couple of handfulls at a time as it expands so much. I have tried the gell/crystal type ones, while very pretty i really dont get the point! They do nothing more than the clay based ones imho. Kittens born here all start on worlds best (safe if eaten) but i try to get them used to al 3 types before leaving, helps the new owners out. |
