Re: Cat Food Advice Needed
If you can go for Hi-life - it's about the same price as Sheba and is 60% meat. Also if you can I'd chance to James Wellbeloved or the like for dry.

Re: Cat Food Advice Needed
If they are happy and healthy I always tend to say dont change it.
But if you want to remember to do it slowly as not to upset the tums ![]() James well beloved & Royal Canin & Purina dry I tend to find is really good. Wet meat, alplaws (although not a complete food) hi life (as someone else said above!) sheba/Gourmet. I also use tesco own brand & Felix. Also feed them raw & cooked to my older boy who wont eat raw! All have healthy glossy coats & no illness (bar my older cats allergies) Vet was highly impressed with me & my boys last week she said that my 10month old kitten was the best she had seen in years & that my older boy is so soild and strong she was highly impressed! especially when I said my kitten was neutered at 6 months she cheered haha!

Mine sometimes still have felix mixed with higher meat content foods. try butchers classic too in sainsburys. that's low meat content but without some of the other rubbish they put in.

Re: Cat Food Advice Needed
The best nutrition for a cat is a completely raw diet, but that doesn't suit everyone. Commercially the best you can give them is a high quality wet with 60% + meat content, from supermarkets thats Hi Life or Encore (sainsburys), P@H - Natures Menu or Applaws (same as Encore). Online zooplus.co.uk has a good selection of quality wet. Substitute that wet with fresh either cooked or preferably raw and even better.
No dry food constitutes "good nutrition" for a myriad of reasons. Short term it gives the cats bulk that quickly turns to fat, and because of the oils they coat it with to make a dry cereal laden nugget palatable to the cat it does make their coats shiney - all false indications of health. Long term it leads to problems with digestion, urinary tract infections, urinary crystals, kidney problems, diabetes to name just a few.

Re: Cat Food Advice Needed
Thats great - thanks for all your suggestions.
I tend to shop at both Tesco and Sainsburys so I'll check out which of the suggested brands they have. I'll be keeping them on wet food with an extra bowl of dry biscuits for snack time. They are fed 3 times a day so I guess I'll start off with one feed a day on the new food to see if they tolerate/like it. We have a litter of kittens due any time so I'll also be on the hunt for some good kitten food in a few months. Cheers, Diane |
