depressed cat

As ive told you all, my Diesel was castrated on Friday, i expected him to be a little different for a couple of days, but hes much worse than i thought. i was told to keep him in for 2-3 days, and i let him out for a wander in the garden this morning, but he seems so low, hes not jumping as well as he used too, and he usually loves to play, and loves his cuddles and attention, but hes just been sat at our feet watching us or laying on his own to sleep (usually layed with me)

He is not the same cat. Is this normal? hes making me feel down, im ment to be happy on my birthday!

Re: depressed cat

I would pop him to the vets to make sure everything is ok, he might have an infection that is making him behave this way. Or he might just be feeling a little out of sorts and sorry for himself, but best to get him checked just in case. Hope he's back to his usual self very soon xxx

Re: depressed cat

Hi,

Yes I agree, definitely take him to the vet for a check up. He should not be like after this after a straightforward castration op. Is he eating /drinking etc? what about his toileting habits, does everything seem ok there?

Hope he is ok very soon.

Izzie

Re: depressed cat

Firstly "HAPPY BIRTHDAY" I would also, just get the vet to check him over for infection. My cats have been off colour for a short period but bounced back quickly.

Re: depressed cat

Thanks for the advice, unfortunatly ive only just been able to check anything on here as ive just been birthing partner to my sister (so sat half asleep here)

My partner has kept a close eye on him, he said he was a little sorry for himself last night, but today he seems to be picking up a little. Hes not eating as much still, but i think hes letting our female eat 1st as we think she is pregnant (another week and she will be at the vet).

I will see how he is the rest of tonight, he was happily playing earlier, and hes pooing fine, not been sick either, so im thinking thats gotta be a good sign!

Re: depressed cat

Well he had a big operation Id feel sorry for myself to!

But saying that My cats have always come round that night, maybe because I had them done when they were 6 months old, by the next day they were back to normal.

Give him another day and take him to the vets just incase.

Its not a big operation at all. a friend of mine said her kitten felt sorry for himself for 2 weeks after. I guess they are all different.
