Food advice please

Hi,

Not posted for a while, but just a quick query.

Leela is now 8 months old and she's been on Iams since i got her at 7 weeks old.

She has dry food in the morning then gets a wet pouch in the evening (mixed in with whatever dry food is left from the day).

I've just been reading a few different threads on here and wondering about her eating. She has recently started eating a lot more. Normally she'd have some dry food left over to mix in in the evening and then the following morning there would still be wet food left but in the last week or so she has been clearing the bowls morning and night.

Is it just because she is getting bigger/older that she has a bigger appetite or.. something else? And also that chat on the new tesco range was interesting as i didnt realise that iams was less than 14% meat content.

Anyones thoughts would be greatly appreciated.

K x

Re: Food advice please

All dry foods you buy from the supermarket are rubbish, they contain maize/corn fillers which make up most of the food. What wet food are you giving her? I just feed wet now, but applaws has brought out a dry food without these fillers in that you can buy off the internet. Her appetite will increase now shes older however if you feed low meat content foods that contain high percentage of fillers it just bloats them and they need to more often to get the energy they need.

Re: Food advice please

Any dry biscuits have far too high carb levels. Even if the filler is not grains, they find another way of padding out the meat content with cheaper filler such as seemingly healthy potato etc. Whatever the make, dry biscuits contain too high level or carbs and, as cats are not programmed to drink sufficient amount of water to counter balance the dry biscuits are left permanently slightly dehydrated. Both over time cause health issues.

A high quality wet, with min 60% meat substituted with fresh - cooked or better raw - will see her more satisfied.

At 8mths they are still growing and fast so need a good calories.

All Manafactured food is absolute junk. Ok living in Turkey we have less options but my pack is fed on Chicken, tongue, fish, butcher scraps all cooked with carrots cabbage or cheap fresh veg and rice or pasta.

For treats we slowly cook either bread or chicken livers.

Re: Food advice please

Hi

Well done for the high meat protein, Turkeylad. However you cook the meat and then add .......vegetables?????? Why?

Feed that meat raw with bone and some offal. If I could not get high quality wet food (I am in the UK) I would do that.
