Is there a guide to the correct weight for a cat?

Hello.

I was wondering if, like dogs, there is a way to tell if you cat/kitten is at the correct weight for their size.

I know with dogs you can see a "waist" & check to see if you can feel ribs with ease. I am concerned about my house kitten as if she were to gain too much weight it would be hard to tell under all her thick coat as a SLH. When I got her I could more than easily feel her hips, ribs & spine (I thought she felt slightly underweight but I doubt myself as she was certainly never neglected by the breeder) and now can't quite so well. She has a little pot belly, I think, that has been checked by a vet who didn't think she needed worming (last don last weekend of January anyway) but she does eat a lot (I suspect this is her breed, though, as she has grown an awful lot).

Any particular guidance on making sure she stays the correct weight? I don't think Miss Fidgety would stand still long enough to weigh her....

When my cat went to the vet when she was off her food, the vet weighed the cat carrier then put her back in it to weigh her , subtracting the weight of the carrier. If you have a scale large enough that could be worth a go, otherwise it might be worth seeing if there's a similar large scale at your vets - although my vet isn't cheap I think they let people use the scales for free.

Sure there are a few different ones online you can try. Some of these are a bit redundant.

Thanks for your concern but she's not on a poor diet plus will be unspayed as she is only 18 weeks old.

Those guides will come in handy so I don't get an obese Maine Coon. I'll be sure to worm her when she is due & not a day before.
