questions re new cat

Hi, i have just got a 8 month old resue cat. I have kept him on the same food as the rescue place (Royal Canin) but they did say he had just changed from kitten to adult. Im worried about him though as his poo's are very runny and we saw blood in them the other day. i spoke to the cat place and they said it was nothing but im not sure. he hasnt done a solid one yet. Also, he is eating any plant in sight and as I know from dogs, when they eat grass it often means they have an upset stomach. Is it ok for him to eat leaves and stuff (not sure what types of plants they are but they are not weeds). Thanks in advance,

Caz

Re: questions re new cat

the planets could be upsetting his tum. starve him for 24hrs just leave down water then feed him just plain cooked chicken for a few days and see if that helps his tum, also make sure he eats no plants!!!!!

Re: questions re new cat

the stress of moving can make them have upset tummies - plain chicken and water (and no plants - some can be poisonous) until he is settled. If it gets really bad and he becomes listless it's straight to the vets for him.

Re: questions re new cat

As spid said the stress of changing homes so to speak could be causing him to have an upset tummy,if he's had the squits for a couple of days then try him on a little white chicken and see how he goes,if it's longer then take him to your own vet as they can get dehydrated very quickly if left untreated, don't give him a lot of chicken as sometimes this can make them worseSee how he goes over the next 24 hrs, just on something light and easy to digest and make sure he's drinking,i'm sure he'll be fineI would also remove any plants for nowWhats his name and maybe some pics when you can,so we can all drool

Re: questions re new cat

our boy had diarrhoea with some blood in last week, then blood in his urine on Sunday so we took him to the vet asap. She said it was cystitis (he was on dry food and not drinking enough). We have moved him onto wet food and bought a water fountain (although they aren't using this yet...) and the blood has gone, as has the diarrhoea

good luck with your new addition

Re: questions re new cat

Watch out with the plants, a lot are poisonous for cats. I'd try him with plain cooked chicken like SK suggested, but if it's been like this for long then see a vet? Has he been wormed regularly?

Re: questions re new cat

Defo be careful with plants. I had to get rid of more than half of mine. The amount that are toxic is high. Some poor woman on catchat had hers die after eating a bit of a house lilly plant (they don't look like lillies at all, just green leaves). Luckily they haven't even noticed the MIL tongue else I would have to part with my large collection of those.

Re: questions re new cat

thanks for the help regarding plants. i have to say he didnt eat much (a few leaves) and i was sat withh him (we dont have plants in doors, just on roof terrace) and he was ill before that so i thought that was why he ate some. Im not sure it is coz of the plants at all but i will keep an eye on him and not let him do that again. Im going ot be feeding him chicken for the next few days to see if that helps as well. just hope his stomach calms down but like i said he is very playful and does not look ill. he is drinking a lot so if there is no impovement soon after eating chicken il go straight to the vet. thanks
