Re: My poor little baby Coco

This is sounding rather like Chlamydia to me, but if it is, the antibiotics should clear it in three or four days (though you must finish the course). If it's viral then all the antibiotics will do is look after any secondary infection and you will just have to wait for it to clear up.

Re: My poor little baby Coco

They gave me tablets but when I took her back the next day the vet said she didnt want to upset her and gave her an injection that will last 2 weeks. i'm not to sure what is was called I just no it was antibiotic.

do you think she will be ok? she's been getting ill now since the 10th feb but has got worse since wed 18th feb and at the moment there has been no improvment. The vet said its viral but that dose not make me feel any better. She was so healthy when she came I feel so sad that the stress of bringin her home may have caused this.

Re: My poor little baby Coco

The antiBs should help keep the secretions from becoming thick, but if her nose gets blocked, she may go off her food as the smell of the food is part of the taste for them, if that makes sense. If she does start to go off her food, try extra smelly stuff like sardines, or mackerel - my lot LOVE the skinless boneless sardines from Sainsburys. Warming their food a little can also help increase the odour and make it more appetising if you need to tempt her.

Like kids with colds, warm steamy atmospheres can help if she gets a blocked nose, so either a bed in the bathroom whilst you have a hot bath, or put her in her carrier, close the door and put a large bowl of very hot water in front and cover with a towel. Karvol or sudafed plug ins can help too.

If she is eating and drinking thats a very good sign, if you can keep her happy and her energy up that will be a huge part of the battle, and the antibs can keep the worse affects of the virus under control, until it has run its course.

Re: My poor little baby Coco

Well if it's been that long with no improvement it's likely to be herpes. There's not a lot you can do apart from keep up the supportive treatment.

Re: My poor little baby Coco

Update on coco, she has a blocked nose and is trying to take air in through her mouth.

her left eye is watery and the right one is the bad one, it stays closed most of the time and i dont think she can see out of it as it is covered by the third lid. i have been cleaning it three times a day with salt water and applying her cream. Which seems useless as her eye is not improving at all.

i just hope she will not loose her eye! dose anyone no if this is likely??

Anna

Re: My poor little baby Coco

That can happen in extreme cases, although all of those that I have heard of, had a delay in getting treatment, which is not the case here. I would ask your vet. If you are keeping the eye clear of infection build up and putting in the antiB cream you are doing everything you can.

Re: My poor little baby Coco

That sounds like she is definitely on the mend. Keeping their spirits up is half the battle and Coco obviously feels good in herself if she is playing and eating.
