Re: very very long story (ring worm)

What a cow!
These people are in it for the money end of. It beggers belief why they sell animals in this condition, they must know there will be come back of some sort?
I hope your sort things out and your kitten will be ok. It annoys me that any one can take advantage of people and more so animals to such an extent.

Re: very very long story (ring worm)

she really did seem like she cared about her animals a lot. They all seemed very happy and well looked after, however I guess appearances can be decieving unfortunately and although she was very honest with me about the potential ring-worm in one of her cats and followed the GCCF rules by waiting for the results etc i think she has stretched the truth some what as to my kitten as there is NO WAY she could have missed all the problems, unless her standards are much much lower than normal

I wish I'd have gone with my gut instincts all those months ago and walked away and not given her the benefit of doubt, but then I wouldn't have my beautiful Lola

Re: very very long story (ring worm)

So sorry to hear you've had all these hassles - your poor kitten too, it's such a shame people don't care for their animals properly and are so unscrupulous!

As for the sexing, I suppose mistakes can be made. When we got our kitten we were told it was a female and had been flead, yet when I took it for a check-up and jabs a few days later at the vets I was told it's actually a male and had flea dirt on him so had to pay for a further flea treatment! I couldn't really complain though as we got him from a friend and didn't pay anything - a breeder should really know better!

Re: very very long story (ring worm)

Don't panic too much - yes you have taken a financial loss but at least ringworm is self-limiting and once it's gone it won't be back, at least not with those cats. If there is the slightest chance of you getting pregnant then you must not take Griseofulvin but I am sure your GP will have told you that!

I am sending you a PM.

Re: very very long story (ring worm)

Why don't you give the GCCF a ring and just initially ask them their advice as to what you can do in terms of possibly pursuing a complaint. At that point you don't actually have to make one - just ascertain whether you feel it is worthwhile doing so and what their advice will be?

I hope you do get this all sorted and don't let it spoil your enjoyment of the kitten.

Re: very very long story (ring worm)

To treat ourselves we just went to the Pharmacy and bought over the counter stuff (after seeing a nurse at the walk-in centre in hospital - this is what she recommended) It was a simple pill called Ovex, and comes in a box with a family using a worm as a skipping rope (made me chuckle)
I literally felt better within hours.
Good luck with it all.

Re: very very long story (ring worm)

ringworm and worms are two different things - ringworm is a skin complaint caused by fungal infection and worms are a tpye of parasitic worm that live inside the body (that's what Ovex treats). You are confusing the two thelioncub.

Re: very very long story (ring worm)

Thank you all for your replies.....a few quick questions if anyone can help?.....

1/ Can ringworm only be present in a few cats of a multi-cat household? (the breeder said that as 5 of her 18 cats were tested and the results were negative for those 5 there is no way that some of remainining cats could have ringworm....its either all or none)
2/ would a vet take take samples from a few cats and culture all of the samples together in the same dish? (breeder says this is what happened and so she does not have individual test results for the 5 that were tested just a test result for the main cat)
3/ Is ringworm present all over the cat? (breeder says a sample was taken from my kittens right ear and it came back negative. My argument was that the ringwrom was present on the cats left ear and her right was fine hence why my vet took a sample from her left of the actual scabs etc which was positive for ringworm, but the breeder says that it doesn't matter where the samples from as if she has ringworm it will show up everywhere)

Re: very very long story (ring worm)

I don't know what to say.

Firstly I hope Lola responds to her treatment and gets well again very soon. She is in the best place with you.

Secondly I'd call the GCCF and see if the kitten is registered and what they can suggest. Given up or not if she is a registered Breeder with them they could still fine her and hopefully look into the situation.

What a poor excuse for a human being she is

Oh! Boy do I feel stupid!
I think I was confusing it for threadworm - which is what our household had.
