Sneezing

Hello, I've only just joined today as I need some advice.

My cat, Mozart is two years old, he will be three in May. He's been very healthy ever since we got him from the RSPCA. He's had all his vaccinations.

He doesn't go out, he only goes out on the balcony that is all. He is our first and only cat. So thus no contact made with other cats. He's very active and eats and all.

Yet yesterday he began sneezing. Not frequent sneezing, nor is it loud. Just some slight sneezing (Like we sometimes). He hasn't lost any weight, nor is his breathing shallow or rapid. His behaviour is normal and energetic and he is eating and drinking normally.

Please give me some advice, Mozart is very important to me.

Re: Sneezing

I shouldn't worry too much, it's not uncommon - just watch out for any other symptoms.

Re: Sneezing

Hiya

my cat often sneezes if he smells something - catnip is a big one, but some air fresheners or scented candles can do it too, as can dust or fur getting in his nose.

Keep an eye out for other symptoms, but I'm sure he'll be fine

Mozart is a fantastic name!

Re: Sneezing

Thank you for the reply Ella.

I've been thinking, that it may be due to cigarette smoke. I don't smoke, neither do any members of my family but I work in a cafe/tennis center where there are a few people who smoke. Maybe the smoke that stays on my clothes, that could be what affects him.

Other than that, he's his normal self.

Re: Sneezing

Hi

I had the same problem with my kitten. I took him to the vets and he had every possible test under the soon conducted on him to try and find out why...all the test results came back negative. We then realised that maybe it was the cat litter we had been using and also my husband had brought a different air freshner and furniture polish a few days before we got the kitten. We stopped using these and changed his cat litter and his sneezing stopped instantly and he has not sneezed since.

Have you recently changed his litter or started using differnt cleaning products that he could perhaps be allergic to?

Smoke can irritate some cats so could be a factor. Air freshners and plugs in things can be a cause also. Some times its just because they have been sniffing around and the dust or a bit has gone up there nose. If there are no other sighs and no discharge im sure he will be fine.

little_miss_kitty:No we haven't changed any of his litter or different sprays. We've used the same type of litter as he has always had. As for sprays, rarely use them, prefer to open windows.

sullivan:So he could be irriated by the smoke. I thought so. I'll just have to clean my clothes and place my coat into the washing room before I go into the house.

Thank you both for your replies.
