Re: cat poo - what should it be like?

I have a Somali with a sensitive stomach. I also noticed that if I buy vet food and give him some dry food (for sensitive cats), he is fine. Somehow red meat seems to make it worse, so I feed him mostly chicken. He loves it, his stomach is in good condition and there are no overly smelly surprises in the sandbox. (Well, we use such good cat sand I have basically forgotten that smell...) No point in even trying with the cheap market-food with him.

The fun part is if he happens to have diarrhea. That combined with long hair isnīt much fun. I am stalking him with a wet rag if I hear the telltale sounds of diarrhea from the sandbox. No way will he be allowed near our furniture before I have washed him... So you bet I am very careful with what I feed him.

I second this. Our Siamese kitten had tummy issues for a while when we first got him. His runny chocolate sauce stank so badly I had to send the OH over to deal with it (he has blocked nose 90% of time so can't smell as good!) hehe
We switched our cats to a 'better quality' diet (imho it's a 'better' diet) and since then, no more runs, and his poos are much less smelly, and much smaller.
I disagree that all poo should smell (I'm talking about humans here) The smell is due to the processed foods and drinks we put into our bodies, and in actual fact, if you eat healthier your poo is said to smell less.
There is a nice article here about the link between poo and health (in humans)

Re: cat poo - what should it be like?

My cat also had terrible tummy problems. I have 2 cats so I kind of know what it should be like (cat poo) and Mistys were sore for her, very runny and quite explosive!

I read an article on Royal Canin (digestive sensitive) and she has been great since she has been eating this. Now I have found that Royal Canin do the wet kitten pouches too so she has them now too.

It's diifuclt to know what is best for them in myopion, my vet told me it's better for them to have dry foods, then I read elsewhere that dry food only can cause problems. Very confusing.
