Unhappy Re: Cat with CRF

Hi everyone, I am getting really concerned Mia is cying everytime i pick her up & when giving her tablet...she is getting so very slow on her feet we are still giving her food via a syringe which she hates, i feel so cruel she has stopped sitting with me and will barely look at us, she still sleeps on our bed but lays as far away from us as she can get (right on the edge of the bottom of the bed). If i could look into a cystal ball and know what i was doing was the right thing i would carry on and not worry. She doesnt drink as much now but we do mix water in her food to thin it down.
She is my baby girl and I dont to upset her but i know she needs food or she will die, I just feel so upset and just cant see a light at the end of the tunnel, I am starting to feel selfish keeping her alive just for me but I dont know if I am doing the right thing, will she pick up and get her strength back?, she walks so slow and when she shakes she nearly falls over, she is getting so weak its breaking my heart, I am unable to get pregnant and have a baby of my own and Mia is it, I cant think of her not here with me ever its really getting me down. I miss her already and she is still here, I miss her following me around and miaowing for a stroke she is just so lifeless at times and so very thin.

Kind regards Mia's mammy x

Re: Cat with CRF

My Merlin would go through phases the same as Mia - Hardly ate, didn't like being picked up etc. I found it was best to leave her to rest as much as possible, and concentrate on the food/pills just in the evening. Definitely try cooking some Coley fish (buy in frozen blocks from supermarket) with a bit of butter. The one thing Merlin used to eat ok (and apparently a lot of older cats are the same) is cooked chicken breast. She went crazy for the tesco's value pack, and even at times when she looked so lifeless, if we got the chicken out she would actually run! (ok.. jog perhaps)
We sometimes got her to eat the pills by squeezing them into a small bit of chicken and making a ball out of it, but she did soon suss us out!
I really do feel for you all. Please take care of yourselves.

Sad news

With total sadness, we would like to inform everyone who sent us messages of support during our difficult time (especially Soph and Jo) that we had to have Mia PTS on Friday gone.

Over the previous 24hrs she seemd to deteriorate even more, for the first time in days, during the night she tried to jump up onto the bed and couldn't make it (we saw this as her wanting to be with us one last time). By the morning, she couldn't walk, wouldn't drink and was so tired.

We knew the time was right and had to make the hardest decision ever. When she went, she was in Leanne's arms.

We are both so devastated and finding it so hard to come to terms with it....it's like losing a close member of our immediate family (she was never just a cat to us, she was a litlle person, she was always our baby). There's now an emptiness in our lives and our house is so quiet without her. We so hope that time truly is a great healer.

Kindest Regards

Leanne & Patrick Salmon

Re: Cat with CRF

Thank you for updating us all. My heart is with you and I understand fully when you say it is like losing a member of your family.

Time is a healer. Think of all the good times, and remember that you did the kindest act of all in the end.

I understand the feellings you are going through as I think everyone here will do. Time does help but you will never forget her or the joy she brought to your lives.. My thoughts are with you with love and sympathy xx
R.I.P Mia be happy over the Rainbow Bridge.

Re: Cat with CRF

it's nearly 2 years since we had to have my lovely boy Nikki pts, he had PKD and we spent months of anguish trying to get him better. sometimes the best thing we can do for our beloved babies is the hardest thing for us. my thoughts are with you. x

Re: Cat with CRF

Our "kitty" had CRF, she was also blind (due to the first owner giving her dog food instead of cat food that has the essential TAURINE in it) and she also had many other problems.
now having said all of that she was the sweetest cat you could ever know and we hoped that she might have gone on for a few years longer but unfortunately she she passed away after being really bad for only a short time.
Rest in Peace Mia
as other have said you can only do your best and sometimes that means saying goodbye ,remember the good times you had with Mia
my thoughts are with you and anyone who has to go through the grieving process.

Re: Cat with CRF

I'm really, really sorry to hear this. I know how important Mia was to you, and I can only imagine how lost you must be feeling right now. You did *everything* you could for her, and she had the best life any kitty could ask for. I know its hard, and that all you want is for her to still be with you, but you did do the right thing. Don't ever feel guilty about making this decision. Unfortunately it was just her time. I hope you are both ok. Sending virtual hugs!
