The point being made is that as long as the cat is tested clear, there is no reason not to breed even if they previously have had it. The majority of cats who contract the virus clear it with no problems whatsoever. If it doesn't test clear after 6 months or so then obviously you would look into not breeding with that particular cat.

Diane Addie says that if a cat tests clear from calici then it has eliminated the virus, and can be considered clear, but can catch it again. Herpes is the one where it's never cleared, and one negative test can be inconclusive as the cat could start to shed again later when under stress.
Because there are so many strains of calici, and they can all mutate between cats and be caught again , it is easy for cats to reinfect each other. University of Glasgow :: Veterinary Medicine :: Cat flu

wow this is an old thread, and you have left the board but i'll answer. i didn't realize you had to be a breeder in order to have an opinion
and also, i'm damn sure you'd had no litters yourself when you wrote this. |
